Default Silver Hood Crest Install = Maddening?

I have been messing with my new silver hood crest for 2+ hours now and my patience is officially shot. I have used the soak in boiling water bit and it still won't stay put around the edges...anyone else used a silver crest from DPS?
Any further pointers would be appreciated!

Try soaking the gasket in lacquer thinner for a few minutes...dry with a paper towel, then wipe with your favorite protectant on both sides. The thinner causes the rubber to expand just enough to fit properly.

Just as hard with the stock gold crest. What worked for me was heating it, tacking a corner with superglue and pulling to get most of the gasket around the crest. Then mount on your hood, lightly tighten the speed nuts and then use a big round toothpick or dental type tool to get the lip of the gasket over the edge of the crest. Then tighten the nuts. It's still hard and took me a solid hour.

Has anyone just filled in the holes and gone crest-less? I think it would be a great look, especially as our cars are so unique. Who needs a logo when the design is so complete? Low key rocks. Just a thought...

If it is that hard. Clean and reuse the old one if it is in good enough shape.

Put a thin rag between the crest and seal. When you have it mounted, pull the rag out and it will stretch the seal just enough.

I got so frustrated trying to mount mine that I gave up on the factory gasket and just used a flat 1/16" rubber for the gasket. There has to be a better/easier way to do this.

Yea, REAL PIA. Frankly, removing the engine was easier. No tips that haven't been mentioned.

I think this may qualify as the most difficult DIY project!

I like the crestless look. I'm just using a piece of white electrical tape. Looks good from 10 feet away.
