Movin’ on Up !!! Maybe? 997-993
So the’97 C4s is in the shop having some electrical gremlins fixed (Immobilizer) and my mind has been wandering towards a newer Porsche (I.E. Warranty) 997 GT3. I have wanted a GT3 for a few years now and the new 997 has the looks of 993 with all of the technologies (415hp) of the newer cars. OK forget the price (Sure), give me your opinion on this move up. I know that the car hasn’t come out in the states yet but we can speculate.

I agree; and if all in the world of Porsche is right the value of this car will hold we could drive it for a very acceptable price. Please don’t misunderstand my motives, I love my C4S and I may very well need to keep it, but if the money gods are good to me and the kitchen is finished sooner then later, this will be my next ride. All of you on this board will have the first right of refusal and I will be able to order my first Porsche from the factory.

I read some posts on 996/997 forums. And it appears many people who now drive more modern Porsches really miss 993. With 3 or 4 times price difference they paid for a newer model they should be getting a such DIFFERENCE that they should forget 993 even exists! But yet... they look back when they drove 993.... There is something in 993 no extra 50 -150 HP can substitute.
On a side note. Almost every time I use restaurant valet parking (and here in LA you can see all kind of cars - Dietrich totalled his red italian car here I get compliments from valet guys how nice 993 is. Some of them even go ahead and try to start "air cooled" discussion and so on.
While those guys don't have an opportunity to race the cars they park 150 miles per hour they are given very good chance to drive all kind of world's finest machinery every day. And 993 does make appear to them. That is nice thing
Sometimes I too have a temptation to replace my car to something "faster" . But I think it is going to be very expensive to find alternative to 993. I am sure 997 won't make it. May be some exotic car. But then they are not reliable for daily driving....

Took a ride in a 996 GT3 this weekend. Man, what a car! It feels nothing like the 996. I really don't know what they can do to improve it, so I'm in pins and needles waiting for the 997 GT3 to see what new miracles they performed.

I'll tell you what. As another citizen of this crazy city we love to call LA, I can tell you this. My 10 year old 993 still gets the same attention if not more than a brand new 997.
- Of course I would like the extra HP, especially on the track where it seems every car comes stock with 350hp+ now. But, I know this, when I am passing new cars on the track, it's not because of my electronics, or smg shifters, or stability control, or 400 ponies, or built in lap timers with air conditioned seats and a gps system that tells me when my latte is too hot and my tires are still cold. It is because me and my 993 are ***** to the wall. Driver and machine.
Hope to pass you soon.

All I can say is I would take a 997GT3 over ANY Production Porsche right now including a Carerra GT. I don't think you can really use a CGT on a daily basis and it has some oddeties to its styling that doesn't quite do it for me (I've seen at least 7 different CGT's up close and personal but addmittedly haven't yet seen a new GT3). In any case, pack the remaining 300 large into my bank account! I'd go with a water-pumper like that for sure. Drove a 996GT3 over the past weekend and while it was pretty cool I'm not totally sold on its looks compared to the 997GT3 which I think is the hottest looking thing I've seen come out of the factory next to the GT3-RS.
p.s. California Rules!

The 997 GT3 is the first new Porsche I have desired since the 993.

997 GT3 (and 996 GT3 for that matter) is a great car. 997 GT3 especially IMO a right kind of sibling for 993 and really continues the spirit of real Porsche.
I'll get one in couple of years (If all goes well, as they say) but won't sell my 993, hell no!
It's too good car to sell and ever and more importantly, it's alreay promised to my older son (once I'm too old to drive).

John,
What do you use the car for? If its a road car only, look into the 997TT instead. The GT3 is much better suited to being used on the track.
I'd be tempted by a used 996 GT2, personally!
