Carrera Graphics - keep 'em or remove 'em
Added the Carrera graphics this morning. I like them, but also like the clean look. Let me know what you guys think.

No one is going to look at the graphics ... all eyes are drawn to those incredible wheels.
I like it without the graphics personally. |
I dig it, but I tend to be old school so.......
|
Doug and I are polar ends.
I actually quite like the graphics. However as a matter of taste differences I say the dark wheels are a bit much. Never been a fan of anything Techart. Oh! And the ducktail rocks. |
Always thought big name labels on cars as being over-the-top.
The car and it's shape says it all. |
I think the graphics work with the overall theme of the car you have going. It works well with the ducktail and gives your 993 a backdated look. I'm not typically a fan of backdating a 993 but in this case it works well .
|
Looks like you have your decades mixed up to me.......

Funny you should ask... I was just considering a black one for my 95. Then I got to thinking about a solid dark blue (blue interior) along the bottom rocker panel. Think I'll get some vinyl and try that look first...or not. :) It's been white without anything but a RENNLIST decal on the window forever.
|
IMO, The graphics work very well on your car because of the ducktail and the black centered Techarts. I like it a lot.
Besides, if you like it, it doesn't matter what we think! You know what they say about opinions... :) BTW, your ducktail inspited me to get one for my 993. Now I need to get it painted. |
I agree with Jackb911.....graphics with the early ducktail is retro, but okay. IMHO however, not sure about the black rims....decidedly from the dark side. Looks really fast even when its not moving. Keep the Carrera Script.
Regards, Gary |
I think the graphics look great with the black wheels!
|
Graphics look good on your car. Love the ducktail.

Looks very Retro and with that DuckTail wow
That Car Rocks  |
To each his own... I think you make it work with the combination of the wheels and ducktail. The wheels have a Fuchs sort of look to them and the ducktail ties it together with the graphic. Looks great and interesting.... a modern Carrera look if you will.
|
The graphics are a very personal issue. If you like them keep them.
I don't like to have writing on my car but there's nothing wrong with it. It looks great on yours, I had a 74 911 with the graphics but my favorite graphics were on my 74 914 2.0. It was black with yellow wheels and yellow reversed graphics. It looked really cool. When I get some time I'll look for the photos and post them on here. Less attraction and recognition from the law without the letters. Chris |
I think the graphics complete the look of your car..... keep em..
|
Here is your car 20 years earlier. Red, Black wheels, graphics and duck tail. It's a Targa...but close enough! :)

Looks great either way, the car itself is simply beautiful
JOrdan :) |
w/o the black wheels I do not think it would work ... however as a total package it's pretty hot ...
|
I agree with several others... the duck tail, black wheels, guards red and the script complete the retro look. Keep it
|
If Porsche ever did that to the 993 cars it would be fine but I don't believe they ever did. Clearly, with red car, you're looking for looks so go for it!
The link a few above was to a 1974 Carrera 2.7. The guy claimed he had $55K of receipts to it,--what a POS. Dan |
I think you went with something that you liked in the first place, duck tail, and the graphics. Kind of like taking a test. Stick with your first instinct. Its all about what you like not what the rest of us likes. Thats probably why we all like to see other people's car photos here. It provides different looks and ideas. I had a turbo tail from a PO and ditched it, I'll bet alot of people here would've kept it and alot would have gotten rid of it. You have a 90's version of the 70's classic going and I think you pulled it off. Its not unlike what many auto manufacturers are trying to capture these days.
|
what you really need to complete the look is polished 18" Fuchs lookalikes :)
|
An update on a classic. If you didn't have the ducktail and wheels, I wouldn't think it was so hot. It really works well with your setup, though!

Keep em', looks good!
I'd even go further and get those 17" really wide fuchs. |
Thanks for the positive comments guys (most of you anyway:-).
I'm sure I'll wind up doing my usual and keep the graphics till I get bored with them. I'm a 51-49% car guy. 49 percent of me wants the car to remain in perfect stock condition, and 51 percent of me wants to personalize the car. So I usually try to personalize the car a bit but not go too overboard. For the 993 I just had the idea to try and give it a little retro touch and pay homage to earlier 911's. The good thing is in one day (or less) I can go back to the classic look by swapping out rims, decklids and removing the graphics. The only real permanent changes are the front bumper and ROW m030 supsenion, which are two mods almost universally accepted. Keep it safe, everybody. Matt |
I find the appearance acceptable, but I voted "no" mainly because the tail and graphics are simply anachronistic. Just not period-correct. Tough call IMHO.
|
I think it all goes together very well. The only thing I don't care for is the silver / aluminum edge on the wheels. All black would look beter, IMO.

Beautiful car. Don't ask for opinions on the script. If you like it: keep it. It is your car.
|
Looks killer. LOVE the wheels. What me biased...no!
I have been kickin around the idea of powdercoating my wheels black too. But I'm not really sure how the black on black will look. Keep the graphics. JMHO of course. |
does it go any faster?

This car is what I will do if I get buy a dark colored 993. When I saw this car I was floored. http://www.cupcar.net/myrsoptik.htm |
I'm not usually a graphics guy, but in your case it ties in really well with the wheels. The car looks naked without it.
|
I have a '97 "S" and I never thought about a different "look" for the car. You car makes me wonder as it looks so damn good. BTW where did you get a ducktail for a 993
|
I'll let you guess what I voted for.
|
I think the duck tail and script, make your 993 look a little different than everyone else's 993. Way cool
|
Maybe it's just the photos, but the graphics seem to make the car look more slab-sided, taking away from the great curviness of the 993.
|
Keep It!! I would let you drive it in my parade .
|
way cool!
stylemaster!..heheh |
Very cool. Keep it . . . your car looks fine! Like many others, I feel its very well put together as a package with the duck-tail and black wheels.
