How many 95 993's with OBD2 style connector?
95's have the round OBD1 connector normally,
however some of the late ones have the rectangular OBD2 connector. How many of the OBD2 style on 95 993's do we have on this forum? The reason for asking is I'm trying to determine if it's worth it making an adaptor to run the already written (NEW) 95 OBD1 software so you can diagnose all the problems the same as owners of 96-98 993's can on your laptop. Any interest? Chris |
I have a 95 and just checked - the OBD2 connector fits! Mine is an early 95 so I bet there are not that many 95 owners with round plugs.
Where can you find the software? I have played around with OBD2 software on my other cars and bought the hardware from scantool.net. I always thought that I needed a Hammer to talk to the car, but if you are saying that software exists, maybe its possible to talk to the car with the inexpensive hardware available on the web? Making an adapter should not be too difficult. I would think the hardest part is mapping the pins to OBD1 plug. |
The software was written recently but it's going to be available with the cables as a package deal just like the OBD2 software.
Still some beta testing and bugs to work out. There's a lot more to it than just switching the plug though. There's a control module to deal with and you need to know what version Motronic is your car using? Most have Version 2.1 I'm just interest in numbers to see if it's worth making both plugs or an adapter. Most 95's should have the round plug from what I read. I don't remember the reason for the switch but I read it in Adrian's book. I played with scan tools too but nothing ever worked. ONLY for 96 and up. This package for the 95 993's should be available within two months. Chris |
Pardon my ignorance, but where is the connector located? Under the dash? I have a late '95 and I can go out to the parking garage to check if I know where to look.

The OBD plug is placed in one of 3 different locations depending on what center console you have. Chris

No bat phone, but I do have those stupid tape holders. Which three places should I look?
BTW, anybody know of something else I could put in place of the tape holders? |
I went and looked. There was a big cover on the side of the console that said "OBD", easy enough...
Mine is the trapezoid. |
Cool - keep us updated when the software is available - I am definitely willing to buy. I cant check my motronic right now - Im travelling for another week. What an awesome diagnostic tool to have on the 95!!!!!!

Mine is the trapezoid. If the two sides which are not parallel have equal lengths, then the trapezoid is called an isosceles trapezoid. The base angles in an isosceles trapezoid are equal in measurement. Chris :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: |

I have an OBD2 connector on my US '95 and ROW '97
Jason are you saying that the 964 stuff is applicable to our cars? Some of us(me) are very unhandy when it comes to electronics. |
Late 95' build with the OBD2 connector here.........I want the software too. Keep us informed as to the status of the Beta.

C993K, I am also interested in the software as I have a 1995 993 with the rectangular OBD connector. Any idea of the cost for the sofware and cable?
|
My 95 RUF has an OBD2 connector. However, it's a RUF Motronics ECU, so I don't know if the software reads it. If it does, I'm buying.
Is there a refund policy? All auto parts store I went to forbid refunds on code readers. I can't even test them in the stores' parking lot. :( CP |
