Clutch Spring BROKE!!
This happened a little while back, but I haven't been driving my car a whole lot so it slipped my mind and I didn't post it...
So I was driving along minding my own business, go to shift into 5th gear and BOING!! The clutch helper spring broke! My first thought was "sh*t" what the hell was that - then as I pushed the clutch in a few times and realized it still worked, I knew it was the clutch helper spring in the pedal cluster.... One of the things I miss from the old 915 gearbox on the SC/Carreras, was the stiff but positive feeling clutch pedal. The 993 has always felt too soft in a few ways, one of which being the Honda-like clutch pedal. Well, problem fixed! I am not joking, it has improved the "shifting experience" as much as the Momo wheel improved the steering! My question is, just to be sure, is there any possibility that it could be damaging something to leave it like this? (The clutch still engages normally) |
By the lack of replies, I take it nobody can relate...

I think I hear crickets.... No experience, sorry.

I was wondering if anyone has an answer to the original question in this post.
I believe my clutch helper spring is broken, and wondering if this could be hurting the vehicle in any way? It's still seems to work fine, just trying to see if I'm neglecting something I need to address. Greg :) |
Hmmmmmm - my red 95' has the 'zero-feel' camaro clutch pedal and the black 95' has a stiffer - almost 911SC feel to it + some squeaks. I'm guessing because of a shot cltuch slave cylinder or other problem. I must admit that I like the red car clutch feel for commuting. Don't know how a broken helper spring would affect the clutch mecahnics in a negative manner other than 'feel'. Interstingly, the red car has the 'sticking' pedal problem and the black car pedal has never hung up. (Knock on burled, stick-on dash panels):burnout:
