9m heads make 350 BHP on N/A 95 993
 

Hi all,

Colin finished fitting my heads this evening - just in time for the Oulton park trackday tomorrow, did a quick run on the Dyno at 19:45 before I left his shop and it showed 350 flywheel BHP (average across three runs) this is before it has its final remapping, the mixture is still out a little so potentially more to come, oh yes the torque was 426NM and unbelievably flat, and on the way to my hotel the drive was great, so much power.

I will post track impressions over the weekend, but will be taking it easy because:

1) It has new rings which will need running in ;-)
2) The mixture is not spot on - needs final mapping
3) I have not been round Oulton Park before

What a conversion - and yes before you all ask, he was running a dyno shoot out all afternoon and the figures are realistic as before my car the dyno ran 3 x GT3's and 2 x 964 RS's and this was after i arrived, not sure how many others went on before and they were all making expected power levels.

Oh yes this is all on an early 1995 non varioram 3.6 Carrera

John, I was just reading online some posts from Colin relating to building a 400+hp race engine. Your post couldn't have been any more timely for me. My basic question is this: is the conversion you got the 360ish hp upgrade Colin is offering for around 10k pds? If so, is there any longevity issues (prior discussion by Colin related to race engine but I thought I read in there that the 360 upgrade had no longevity issue). Does Colin have a website?

Dayum those numbers are impressive! And so cool.

How much power to the wheels?

Nobody can really answer that question until the new heads have been run for many thousands of miles in different environments, which will take years. However, as long as you also upgrade other key components (such as rods, etc) Colin's engines should be fine, since the strength, quality, machining tolerances and balance of his components are superior to OEM by a very large margin.

The engine casing itself should cause no problems, since it's also used on Turbos with much greater power, heat and component stresses.

The issues that also should concern you, is how the other components (brakes, tires, suspension, bodyshell) will cope with the increased power. A car is a "system" and increasing one element - in this case, power - requires that other parts are strenghtened accordingly.

shouldn't be logevity issues as the bottom end is untouched and as already commented on is more than strong enough for this type of power. Anyway I hope no issues as i do 10 -1 2 track days a year and this is my first engine work in 88,000 miles (only for the power upgrade, tight as a bell in every other respect) and want to do another 88,000 before the next, the reason I went this way rather than supercharger is my track work and greater longevity!

Track experience:

2 GT3 drivers came up to me convinced I had a supercharger fitted after I "surprised" them on the straights, this car pulls like train, Equal to a GT3 on the straights at Oulton (admittedly they are not that long) and awesome powering out of corners - just what I hoped for, i really feel my car is a match for a GT3 now and still has that oh so special 993 feel :-)

It goes back to Ninemeister on Tuesday for a remap and then I will post plots - might be a few weeks though as I am off ski-ing next weekend.
