Wow- what a great write-up Jeff!

I hope Robin puts this up on his site. I'm saving it as a web archive file so I'll have it for sure if I ever need it!

First rate, Jeff. Even I can likely do this with your article.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I did notice the pics were from another domain. I figured that might have something to do with it. I'll try the other thing you said after I get my Rennlist membership. I believe I would have a lot more control over the appearance of the post if I could write directly in HTML.

P.S. Are you a pilot?
Yes, for a little over 15 years now.

Jeff,
I checked my parts earlier and noticed that one rear shock was labeled: F4-BE5-6131-H0, while the other was labeled: F4-BE5-6130-H0. Any idea why - they look the same?

I ordered these as a complete HD & M030 set from Gert a while ago.

Andreas -

You had me sweating for a second. I called Bob and was informed that there is no difference (physically) between the shocks with those two different numbers. Bilstein initially had a separate part number. However, because they are literally the same shock, Bilstein has done away with the 6130 number and now uses only the 6131 number.

There are a few online merchants that list both numbers, but rest assured nowadays (assuming they are shipping new stock), both rear shocks are now labelled 6131.

Your parts are fine.

As Jeff said... US only sells 6131s now. Not sure what Bilstein does outside of the US. US Bilstein and the ROW are like totally separate companies (that don't play well together). The US as far as I am aware still are the only Bilstein distributors that provide the rear hats for the PSS9s (freely acknowldeged as idea taken from Jim M here on Rennlist). So stuff coming from other Bilstein parts of the world have sometimes no correlation to what happens in the US. This is one of the reasons they tell me why they will not honor a warranty for parts that do not come through Bilstein US. They sometimes do not know what other areas do with the products for their local markets (that and I am sure that since they did not get a cut of the inital sale they are not too motivated). I can also not even think of a reason why there would be 2 numbers. The are symmetric side to side. Only diff would be the location of the drop link mount if it was fixed (which it isn't). PSS9s for example do not have a left or a right in the rear.

Whew. Thank you Jeff.

Bob,
Thanks for the additional clarification.

If you're ever in the Bay Area, Jeff, the first couple of rounds are on me. Very well done. I have a C2, so I'll try to document the drop-link install for the front sways.

I guess the only thing missing are the requisit side-view before and after shots...
