Default Brake bleeding ?

Looking at Adrian's book has me somewhat confused. On a car with ABS and ABD, I thought it was as simple as hooking up a Motive Power Bleeder, pumping it up, and opening the bleeder screws. Am I wrong? Do I need to depressurise the system as the book suggests? Any other tips? Thanks

My car has ABD and I find brake bleeding to be very routine and effective with simple tools such as the Motive brake bleeder system.

I normally don't that and have never had any problems (I also have ABD and bleed brakes with Motive every time before I go to track so it's bunch of times a year).

I've once or twice done the bleeding by turning the ignition on and off few times (so that the ABS opens up) but didn't notice any difference.

Chris,

That avatar is very cool!

If you have a car with the vacuum-boosted system, it is just that simple. Page 114 lists which models have vacuum boost (Carrera and Carrera S) and which have hydraulic boost (Carrera 4, 4S, RS, and all Turbos). Bleed the clutch slave at the same time.

I echo what Chris stated. Works perfect.

I found that cycling the ignition on and off (10 sec on at a time or so) while bleeding helps clear the ABS pump. I learned this from an expert well known to this board and found it helped alot.

Talking 993 don't got no stinking .....................

vent line, at least mine doesn't. It has been capped off. My friend with a 964 DOES have a vent line, and you advice is sound in that instance.

I have ABD and ABS and use the Motive power Bleeder...NOTE: I only use the Motive unit for pressure. I do NOT add fluid to the Motive unit. I'll bleed two Calipers....remove the pressure from the unit, top off the master cylinder, re-pressurize and finish off the last two...concluding with a final master cylinder top off.

This is also the way I do it. It keeps the Motive Bleeder clean. Just keep an eye on the brake reservoir so you don't empty it and introduce air into the system.

If by "vent line" you mean what is often called the "over-flow", I believe you will only find that on '95s, and not sure if only the early production or all '95s.

This Sat. (3/11) the St. Louis Chapter of the PCA is sponsoring a brake bleeding party. I'll PM with more info.

yes, by "vent line" I did mean "overflow".

So, disregard for the MYs >95 I guess.... which was not specified by jnx.

Thank you, have a nice day.
