Default gold plated porsche (book)

I think it's a must read for the porsche lover. What do you think.

I really liked the book, particularly since our own Steve W. figures so prominently throughout. A fun book for anyone to read but especially for P-car lovers.

I really enjoyed the book. Very amusing reading considering all the money I've spent on my car in the past year. I could totally relate to the author.

I enjoyed it as well; not just a book about a Porsche, but neat stories from his life - a real pro writer and it showed in the book.
Well worth a read.

Hmmm, I did not like it that much. Not enough Porsche material and too much on other distractions...maybe my expectations were wrong. While reading it I kept thinking "OK, lets get over these other stories and tell me about the Porsche".....

But then again I think a good read is a 911 Engine Rebuilding Book ! ;-)

Cheers,

Mike

A great book more along the lines of "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" than a 911 Engine Rebuilding Book. I couldn't put it down, and it made me laught repeatedly. The author's obvious love of Porsche cars and willingness to attempt what most might consider impossible as far as doing work on the car himself is admirable. Though not very informative or applicable as pertains to the 993, the history and foibles of earlier 911's form the backdrop of the book. Anyone who loves 911's should read this book.

Just finished it this afternoon. It's a good book and I highly recommend reading it. Nothing ground-breaking, just well-written, entertaining and insightful.

Reading it now, very well written and holds interest well - funny stuff too! Second time through for me, I borrowed it from another Porsche buddy a (ehem) long time ago so I figured I'd re-read it before finally returning it.

Quick and fun read.... a talented writer. If you've ever turned a wrench on your car, you'll appreciate the content

Exactly what I was thinking as I started reading it.

It didn't take more than a few pages for me to relate. The part where he mentions the building kits they had as kids where you had to screw girders together using screws and nuts with the supplied screw driver and wrench...also how that would be an issue (legally) these days with kids running the screw driver into a wall socket.

Times certainly have changed. Many today would be lost without the numerous service industries available...something he also mentions.

An enjoyable read so far.

Ah, I remember reading the book when I was building my first 964. Very enjoyable read, considering my undertaiking.

I met Stephan Wilkinson at a local PCA event the following spring. He came in a brand new STi he was testing for one of the magazines he works for. Let me drive it to his house where I met his wife and got to see the 911 in the barn. At the time he was contemplating changing all the glass on it with Lexan. Stephan is a great guy and the book is a treasure. I've meant to read it again and I'm glad you guys reminded me!
