Made the plunge....... 97 C2 w/48K miles
After two years of searching......I finally made the plunge !
I had posted a thread over the holidays concerning a 97 C2 that I was looking to purchase. The original owner leased the car and it was sold in an auction......no records prior to 30K. Three previous owners.
The seller and I had made a tentative deal based on a reasonably clean PPI. My stated expectations were no body damage, no painting and no major mechanical issues.
Inskip Porsche did the PPI and they found some little stuff but they noted that the car had been painted in several areas and the steering rack was starting to leak. No body damage.
The paint was almost a deal breaker but the seller and I used the PPI to settle on a price of $29K. I decided that it was not the perfect car but it is a good buy for my first Porsche. The paint looks great and I can't tell where it was touched up.
My new mechanic, Performance Auto in Malvern PA, checked out the car while doing PA state inspection. He didn't find anything major. He has fixed most of the minor issues. The steering rack boot was replaced and they figured a few more years before I replace the rack. He also noted that the some major service was performed (30K?) plugs, gas filter, etc. had been done. I am now patching together records through the Porsche dealer that sold the car. Warranty work only.
Im real happy with the car....I've attached a picture but I had to pdf the file to get it to a transferrable size.....looks a little fuzzy.
Thanks for your tips and thanks to a co-worker Lou Zotti (91 C2) who is a great resource for anything Porsche.
