Softback Sport Seats in a 993?

Has anyone else installed softback sport seats in a post 95 993? I believe this seat was used in the late 80's Carrera, 964, 95 993 and the late 944/951. I got a couple of very nice ones in black. They bolted into my 97 and the wiring was a direct plug in. It looks like about $1300 - $1400 to recover in Boxster red leather.

This type of sport seat is sometimes found in early 95 model 993's. Similar to the RS America 964, only in leather.

I've got em. Absolutely wonderful seats - the best Porsche sport seats for a street car IMHO.

I had these in my 84 930 Turbo and they are very nice seats.

I love those seats. If I can find a set, I'll be all over them.

Those came in my 95 993....The side bolters are great but could use a little more lumbar support for me...other than that, there's great !!!

Had these great seats in my '85 Carrera and loved 'em. The only downside is the high wear area on the bolsters. It takes a careful PO to not wear the heck out of the bolsters with the ol' keister.

They provide more support than the factory hardback sport seats.

I agree that they are the best street Porsche seats. I had them in my 87 cab. The lateral support is fantastic. I too have considered buying a set and having them recovered to match my 95 995 interior. I didn't know that the wiring was identical- that is great!

Peter, I agree about the lumbar - it's weak.

I was surprised too that the wiring was the same. This set came from a late 944/951 and had been removed from the car before they got worn. Paid ~$900. The only slight downside is they sit 1/2" or so higher than the stock comfort seats. I'm going to ask the upholstery guy (thanks Jastx) to shave the seat foam down a bit and add a little in for lumbar.

Considering the cost of 993 hardback sports and that I'd likely never find a set in BR, I'm becoming more convinced that this is the right direction.

I'm even thinking of a little retro touch :D :D :D.

I had them in my 85 carrera. I totally agree with everyone else they are very comfortable for street seats. The only bad thing was the left driveside bolster showed wear from getting in a out.

This thread is ten years old, yet more timely than ever as HB sport seats have become increasingly difficult to source. Sure the hard-backs look great, but as sport seats go I feel that the soft-back sport seats are more comfortable and provide far greater stability. And while the HB sport seats look great from behind, the wings and the stitch patterns - not so much.

So I set about searching for a pair of soft-back sport seats for my C4. I found a heated 964 SB sport seat listed on EBay by a local enthusiast and was searching for a mate when I discovered a beautiful pair of refurbished 944 seats from Lart's Performance Parts. Turns out Lart is a Rennlist Sponsor, a real Porsche enthusiast, and even offers a 10% discount to all Rennlist Members (one more good reason to join RL).

Lart clearly takes great pride in his work, and he has a great upholsterer. In addition to recovering the seats in quality leather, Lart replaces any worn switches, motors, handles and pulls, and puts a fresh coat of paint on the plastic trim. When I ran into a problem with one of the rails sticking Lart stepped up to the plate and had the seat bottom shipped back to make it right. And when the UPS guys put a nice slice in the vinyl siding, Lart again stepped up at no cost to make it perfect. If you can get your hands on an older 944, 928, 968 or 964 sport seat, I would recommend Lart's Performance without hesitation.

So for about 1/4th the price of HB sport seats, I feel these SB sport seats are a great alternative. The installation is a snap. It's a simple plug and play right down to the electrical connectors. Cheers!

Even after a good leather treatment, the original 993 seats were looking tired and soft

Out with the old, in with the new. Installation is a simple plug and play.

Very nice! I love those seats. You can find a set of late 964 rear seats (91+ have the release button at the top of the seat back, like the 993) to match the pattern of the fronts. They used to be quite inexpensive to source out, not sure how much they go for nowadays.

Looks great!

Love those wheels . . . .

I Have had every 993 seat.
Comfort - ? Where is the Comfort?
Sold my Hardbacks - which are awesome on the street, easier egress / ingress - Pretty!
On the Trackor Aggressive Cornering - they do not offer support.
But the support of the 993 Softbacks and Side Bolster is simply the best 993 Seat IMHO
