Al- those wheels are alright

I love these soft back sport seats! Just make sure not to slide down on it when entering to prevent tearing up the bolsters.

They look to have all the advantages of the hard back seats without the edge coming loose problems of the hard backs.

Great thread. Since my front seats will likely need new leather soon I'm hoping to "upgrade" to SB sport seats when that time comes. First I have to find decent cores. Second leather that matches the
OEM red in my interior.

I've already ordered some swatches for step two and its proving difficult to source the right matching red.

Had those in my 85 targa- super comfy! Remember to buckle your seatbelt. I'd forget cuz they really wrap around and hold you in!

The guy who makes you the new leather covers with the expanded bolsters can also provide the foam inserts to convert your existing seats. No need to get your own "cores" if this is what you are speaking of.

Andy,

We tossed this idea around in another thread about converting regular cores seats to the sport seats. Based upon my discussions with Lart and several others who specialize in these seats, I would steer away from trying to convert regular cores to a sport seat. The cores are vastly different. I did find one shop that does these conversions by adding new aftermarket metal supports, but it's just not the same seat.

Great information on this thread, as I am in the midst of brainstorming through the various seat options. This weekend during the TG CnC I sat in a several Porsches of different vintages, and as much as I love the HB Sport seats in the 993 for their looks (and ability to color match the shell with the exterior), i found the older gen sport seats a lot more 'ergonomic' and glove-like feel.

Glad to see we have options, and can't wait for the Hersey Swap meet next week - hopefully there will be some f/s I can snag!

Very nice! I love those seats. You can find a set of late 964 rear seats (91+ have the release button at the top of the seat back, like the 993) to match the pattern of the fronts. They used to be quite inexpensive to source out, not sure how much they go for nowadays.
Thanks Ilko, nice suggestion - one more item to add to the slippery slope

[QUOTELooks great!

Love those wheels . . . .]
Thanks Al - those are the nicest "winter wheels" I've ever owned. I can't wait to break out those hand-painted center caps when i mount the BBS Specials this week. Thanks!

[QUOTEI'm a big fan of HB sort seats , but this soft backs seats are awesome as well]
Opo you're collection of 993's with HB and softback sport seats, three spoke steering wheels, and other RL goodies is simply awesome!

Spyder man check with Lart - he may be able to source some cores for you eventually, as well as a match for the boxster red leather.

What's it cost for a remanufactured set of soft backs from Lart for the 993?

987/997 seats, which fit in a 964/993 with the OG Racing adapters, are also nice. I put a set in my 964 last year and have been very happy with them.

I've checked with Lart, and he offers a great price for rebuilt seats to whatever specs you want...provided they are in a common leather color. I either have to source my own matching red hide for Lart or find someone else who has the right red leather. Based on color swatches GAHH doesn't have the right 'red' either.

Anyhow, this is a back burner project. It will cost a fair amount of money to do the seat rebuilt/upgrade right. And using the current worn seats is costing me nothing...so right now the frugal angel hovering over my shoulder is winning the argument with the OCD devil above my other shoulder. The devil keeps saying, you could always switch to black leather seats... and black carpeting... and and and...

I've sat in both and I found the soft backs to have better support and really hold you in the seats. The reason people are paying soo much for hard backs is cause the option to paint them to match the exterior.
