From my reserach and post to my thread on which LSD to get the torque sensing LSD is a completly different animal and will not offer the same benefits on the track - this was the reply from George on the difference:
"Remember that only a plate-type LSD (like the Porsche motorsport unit) will offer lock under decel (the better option for track use). A torque-biasing-type will only offer lock under acceleration and is completely open under decel. And if you go with the former, you can specify percentage lockup on accel or decel ...e.g 70%/40%. Guards makes both types, and from what I remember hearing is more durable than the Porsche one, (I think?!). Do your homework as this is a pricey mod when you add parts and the labor, so you want to make sure you actually get what you want"
So plate type for track, torque sensing for other applications!

Some of us, myself included, are going for this plate type GB even though we don't track our cars. I am attracted by the benefit of lock under decel for the street (spirited canyon carving) as well. Am I wasting my money?

Hello Terry,
I think the plate type is best for any type of spirited driving. Also, AFAIK, Porsche never had a Quaife type avail.
Coming back next summer???

Many LeMans cars use (or at least in the past) spools for reliability reasons. If one breaks a driveshaft, the driver can get it back to the garage for repairs.
Cars with spools are fun to push around in the pits

"The Quaife is gear operated, it has no plates or clutches that can wear out and need costly replacement."
"Racers don't have to put up with locking mechanisms or spools that create unwanted understeer under power."
So then how does this compare to the Guard unit?
Obviously the Quaife is still a T-B LSD, but it seems to offer the same advantages over the factory clutch/plate type diffs.
In the Guard website, their LSD's are compared to clutch/plate style (factory LSD diffs), so I'm wondering if anyone who has used both the Quaife and Guard LSD's can offer some feedback.........
I think it depends on the track, how an approach to an upcoming corner and coming out of a corner is taken, etc........
