Default #&*@!~!!! Rock Chips!

Less than 2 weeks after installation of my new front bumper (turbo euro), Turbo S ducts & fogs, and fender/hood respray I have rock chips. Not just 1 or 2, but 15! Unfreakin believable.

My 993 is my daily driver, so I expect a few but this is ridiculous. The paint hasn't even had time to cure, so there's nothing I could have done.

Just venting!

Gotta recommend an Invisi-shield or similar 3M clear plastic application. 91K miles on my '95; installed it at about 35K miles. Only stone chips on the car are what were there before I applied the Invisi-shield.

It's very hard to avoid the stones, I get them more on the front of the hood than the bumper.
I just live with it, besides it gives the car more character!

The Porsche bra can do more damage to the paint than the chips, though you can rub out the bra damage - for a while I guess.

I applied Invisi-shield after putting on my Euro bumper. My OEM bumper was sooo pitted after only 20,000 miles. After 2300 miles with Invisi-shield I have NO stone pits. My wife and I applied it, VERY easy. I am going to do the Boxster next.

I'll second this. My 993 came with clear protection on the entire front, the mirrors, the leading edges of the rain gutter (next to the windshield), the exposed edge of the fresh air intake, and within the rear of each painted wheel well lip. I drove the car from Seattle to Maryland after purchase, and sustained no damage - whatsoever. Since this trip in September, I've logged an additional 4,000+ miles and the front end looks great. I am absolutely sold on the concept and would have it professionally re-applied should it start showing its age.

Brian I feel your pain! I just had my front bumper resprayed, rs splitters, turbo ducts and clear corners installed in late October. My car isn't a daily driver but I just did the approximately 600 mi round trip from Phx to Vegas. In cleaning the thousand bugs off the front of my car, I noticed three large chips! Oh well that's what the touchup paint is for. In another month, I'll be getting the invincashield put on. It's the only real way to combat the stone chips.

Keep the shiny side up!

I agree w/ the idea of the Invisi-shield, but you have to let the paint cure for 30 days first. I haven't even gotten there yet. I'll end up using a bit of touch up paint & just living with the chips. Just frustrating!

You just have to live with it. I dont think the clear shields are the end all to the problem. You get lines, marks and other oddities as time marches on....Its just a part of life/ you cant keep em new and enjoy em too...god knows we try though!

Brian: Sorry to hear about that! Sucks! If it is any consolation, last month I took my car up to Big Sur for the first time. About 6 or 7 hrs into my trip a freaking rock planted itself on my windshield. Now I have a nice star on my windshield reminding me of how stuff like this happens all the time....

Cheers.

I didn't let mine cure for that long and I've had no issues with my Expel 3M film. At the price of paint and inconvienence of letting it sit, I'd do it NOW!

Sorry to hear about that - it's a big bummer when you work so hard to get it pristine and it gets ruined.

Maybe for future reference, if someone is upgrading bumpers/spoilers then leave the originals on. Get the new stuff sprayed, let them sit for 30 days, then appy the clear bra and install. It's another month, but would prevent this.

Talking My 2 cents...

At least you are driving the p-car enough to get paint chips. I just got Steve's chip, new Sport classics rims and I'm rolling tide. I don't want to act like I don't care about the appearence of the paint. Most would say mine is a knock out. (By the way "Rejex" works) But I am still a believer in having fun with these great sports cars. Cancel your safety deposit box. Take your p-car and spouse to the mountains. The leaves are turning. Let it eat. Then sip apple sider (or stronger) kick back and do it again.

You owe the car and none of us....anything.
