Default 993 TURBO SPECIAL EDITION????? PLEASE HELP

Hi all,
I need seriously some help from any very skilled 993 enthusiast. I've been told that a 993 TURBO SPECIAL EDITION with 450 Cv exists, produced in 1998, near the end of the production of this model! It has the engine M64/60 S and a very special cockpit but it is NEITHER a 993 turbo with the 450 hp kit NEITHER a 993 TURBO S. It's body has all the modifies of the Turbo S (modified front wing, double exhaust pipes....) except for the holes on the rear mudguards.
I've got a frame number: WPOZZZ99ZWS370784

PLEASE HELP!!!

Thank you!

I am not sure but you seem to be talking about the Turbo "S" model .. The VIN number will not tell you anything, however you can check the square white sticker under the top of the front hood and check three digits that are there if it says 770, it is the regular turbo, otherwise if it is 780, it is the turbo "S".

Some other things would be yellow calipers, an air duct on the rear fender, a different rear wing, air ducts in the front bumper...but all these can be bought later, the sticker is your best proof. If in doubt, take pics and post them..

Thanks for the reply!!

THAT'S THE PROBLEM!!

This sticker you mention says "770". Infact, SURELY IT'S NOT a Turbo S because it has a different cockpit (without carbon fiber elements and sport seats) and full leather and MANY accessories.

The car has been registered in March 1998 (so it should not be a Turbo S because it has been produced in 1996).

The owner says it is a "special edition" (with had an enormous price when it was purchased as new: almost 190.000 euros!) which has been produced closely to the end of the production of 993 Turbo. But I've asked to some specialists and they say it's SIMPLY a 993 Turbo with the 450 Cv power kit.

Don't know who I can believe to!

THE FACT IS: IF THIS CAR IS BORN WITH 450 BECAUSE OF THE DESIRE OF A CUSTOMER, OK it's a 993 Standard with the power kit! BUT IF THERE ARE 10 OR 15 OR 2O FRAME NUMBERS (1 AFTER 1) WHICH ARE ALL WITH 450 CV, MAYBE IT SEEMS THAT PORSCHE AG WANTED THEM AS 450CV kit car. This could mean that this is really a special - final - serie.

They are wasting your time. Either post pictures or have the owner tell you what exactly it is

First owner could've ordered it that way if he/she wanted so that doesn't necessarily tell you anything. You can make lot of different options & deletions when you order a new Porsche. Enough money and they'll do a lot. And with ton of options & deletions the price jumps very high.

I'd try to contact original owner or call through every dealer and give them VIN so you'll find out who originally sold it.
Or better yet, send the VIN to Porsche and ask what it is.

To me this sounds like a Turbo that the original owner ordered just the way he/she wanted it (including the 450 kit).
Since the production date is 1996 and the sticker had "770" on it, those things rule out Turbo S and the possibility that it was some kind of "end of the run special".

I hope you find out what it is and let us know.

The 450 bhp engine upgrade was available as the X50 option,,, it sounds like you have a highly specced run out standard 993TT. Remember the 996 came out in late '97, so they needed to add a few goodies to shift the last of the 993TT cars.

I've already done such a thing! He says it's a "final edition". Very few cars that PORSCHE wanted with the 450 Cv engine. But they're not Turbo S. But I don't believe him at all!

Sounds like a one-off customer car from the special wishes dept. If there was a limited edition model late in the 993TT cycle (other than the "S"), the members of this forum would definitely know of it.

There were only two special editions in '98 with 450BHP that I know of, one was the turbo S and the other was the 993GT2 EVO which had different body work (see my avatar).. Here are some details of it..

Vin: wwwpozzz99zts392001 up to wwwpozzz99zts392081 (21 cars were produced)
The others would be special customer orders with different options.

Special Wishes program....sure sounds like a possibiltiy. I have no experience with them, but i have heard they are extremely nice, perhaps you could contact them directly to see if this car is from their program? Cheers, Kyle.

Some national Porsches division often don't know that some strange version have been made in very few units. Like the 993 Turbo Cabriolet (among 10 and 14), for example...
So I'm not sure, talking with the maximum respect I can have, that "ALL" 993 Turbo owners know about all the models....

Anyway.... the EVO is great!

Undoubtedly you are correct. If the car is a one-off car, I imagine that nobody - other than the person who ordered it - would know anything about it.

In my admittedly unexpert opinion, It would be highly uncharacteristic of Stuttgart, however, to produce and market a limited edition car in complete secrecy.

Well, consider that the 993 Turbo Cabriolet was produced starting from a request by Zentrum Porsche Munchen's CEO. And is said that Mr Wiedeking saw the car only when it was completely finished!
