Default Headlights and lenses

I think I have two issues with my stock headlight assemblies on my 96 993 C2. To look at them they appear to be dark or blackened inside and the lenses are a bit yellowed and have some pitting from the years. If I remove the headlights can the lenses be replaced seperately and/or removed to gain access to the inside for cleaning. Am I wasting my time or are two new headlight assemblies in order? I think that if I can replace the lenses and clean out the darkening effect on the inside it might just renew the assemblies. At the same time I will probably add the HID kits.

Thanks
Ron

No need to replace the entire assembly, just the lenses. They can be cleaned on the inside and outside, but I found the $75/pair cost to replace them reasonable.

Try cleaning the lens first...

If you do need new lenses, as Terry said, they are available, but I've not seen them for $75 for the pair... more like $75 each.

Just a bit of caution. Be carefull with the reflective coating on the inside of the lights...it can rub off and scratches easily. The lens themselves are pretty easy to change and look great when the lens is nice and new.

Cheers,

Mike

Mission accomplished. The cleaning really made a big difference. I think now I will invest some time in trying to polish the minute pits in the lens.

HID's for winter project.

Does anyone know if the HID lenses are the same as the non-HID lenses? My car has factory HID's and the lenses are pitted a bit. I'd like to replace them but can't figure out from the various suppliers if the lens is the same.

Awesome, I learn something new here everyday! Thanks for the link Kelly (et al) you just saved me $150. My passenger’s side lens has a crack and I assumed I needed to replace the entire unit. I had a quote for $200 used. At that price I should probably buy both sides so they won’t look funny. I’ll install the right first and see how it looks.

Thanks again

Default How do I take apart a 993 headlight?

Group,
My left hand headlight looks grey now that I have replaced my right hand headlight unit.
Does anyone know how to remove a 993 headlight lens?
I want to clean the left hand lens and reflectors.
Can the reflector be cleaned?
Do I need to remove the entire headlight assembly to do this?
If so how?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My email address is pp000830@mindspring.com
Thanks,
Andy
