Default Fan Belt Sensor - Help!

At the PCA - Chicago sponsored track day at Blackhawk Farms my Fan belt warning light came on. After pulling off the track and checking, the belts were fine, the temperature was perfect and the car running fine. The sensor (sender) just to the left of the fan housing, and belt tensioner was loose. I plugged it back in shut the car off and restarted and the light was off. The clip was broken though and it does not hold it. I need to replace it as it is pretty important. I have called three or four dealers and nobody knows what I am talking about. Anybody have a part number?

thanks,

Do a search, it is in there. Or go to the DIY section on p-car.com. There is a procedure for R&R.

Patrick,

In P-Car they have how to replace the alternator and oil the belt roller, I need the clip that holds the plug in the sender of the belt roller to stay. What is R&R?

Hmmm, I see what you are asking. R&R is remove and replace.

I just had my roller replaced due to the light coming on. I don't know about the clip. I see it in the picture and it appears to be attached to the plug. Sorry I am no help. Can you send the photo from P-car.com to your dealer and ask him to look for it?

Actually Patrick great minds think alike. I did send the picture to a local dealer and I will see if my mechanic has any ideas as well. Thanks though.

Do you need one of the pieces in the image below or do you need the support bracket? (part #964-106-315-02)

I just noticed you have a MY97 so your belt sensor might not look exactly like the one in the photo above.

First off, relax. It's not that important. I did probably 5 track days with my light on, simply becuase I hadn't gotten around to fixing my faulty sensor. No biggie. Buy the part from Sunset; pretty easy install I think.

Eric,

You are right the belts are pretty fresh so I should have nothing to worry about.

Jason

Ralph at Brandywine Porsche is sending me the metal support bracket to try out. If this does not work and it does not plug in correctly then I will have to figure out if it is the fan belt roller or the plug and wire (pictured on the left of your picture). Yesterday I cleaned the connection carefully and plugged it in and again the light remained off upon restart. As soon as I drove a little it apparently unplugged itself and the light came on. Thus I hope the bracket will to the trick. Sunset has not returned my call yet and the guys at Brandywine were really helpful and sending a metal support bracket in the mail on them. Worth a shot.
