BTW, I polished off the (remainder of the) box of donuts on Sunday!
"Polished" being the operative word here!!!

Well, this weekend I replaced my SAI check valve and also replaced the spoiler drive bearing. As I was testing my much improved "quiet" drive of the spoiler, I saw that my spoiler wall is cracked about 7/8 of the way across-only about 2 inches still attached. So, with the power of the Search function and Robin's site, I have another DIY to do this winter.

Thanks for the advice here.....

I'm considering the PORSCHE decal, if I can find it in a dark grey.....???.... (maybe)

Any pictures of those with the decal installed??

Jeff,

Are the decals still available? I thought they were NLA. Last I checked, many, many months ago, the original site was down. IIRC, they were asked to discontinue their sales due to trademark infringement.

Yeah, I suspect you're right Mark. I've check vigraphix and porschedecals.com, both of which are MIA.

I suspect I will either need to get the exact dimensions of the decal (28" wide, but spacing and height are unknown from my search) and have one made or forget it.

Jeff,

The RTA vinyl is 273mm long, 37mm high, with a 14mm spacing.

Jeff,

Happy to help.

'Course, there are other "alternatives":

Yikes.

When I was searching this morning, I stumbled across that website. I laughed out loud and quickly hit the 'Back' button.

My spoiler wall is folded down by about 3" from the top-its too tight/short to slot back into the top (which is prob. the reason why its off). Its the way the car came ( I think- I hardly ever drive behind myself) First time I put the spoiler up to clean I noticed it.

What gives? Is this the correct length?

What no-one appears to have considered is a way to prolong the life of the flap. I love me my Porsche engineers, but who was the wise guy who thought a rubber flap would last longer than a few hours of spirited air redirection? I mean, really? Was this a redesign from the previous iteration made out of Kleenex?

Anyone tried any neato tricks to solve this? Or has anyone tried another material stronger than rubber (haven't checked out how it folds, so I don't have any idea what the first step might be)?

The part is probably made in Japan.

Randy,
The spoiler wall is actually plastic. While any parts replacement can be a hassle, it's really not that expensive ($65) if it lasts for 5 - 10 years. When I replaced mine a year ago, it was about halfway torn and had been in service for 11 years and 35,000+ miles. Not a bad service history for a piece of plastic that is required to flex like origami on a daily basis.

If anyone needs a new spoiler wall with the PORSCHE decal, I have one that was only in service for about a month before I bought my RS spoiler. I can't remember if it's gray or white lettering. At any rate, $50 plus shipping. Pics available of course.

I suppose, but my car has 9,500 miles on it and the spoiler wall has ripped clear through. Just seems like there's little reason it couldn't have actual hinges instead of folds, and be made out of hard plastic instead of the rubberized material they do have. Again, I'll have to go home and raise to spoiler halfway to see how it compacts, but it can't be THAT complicated, right?
