Ahh.

I had 6 originally and went down to 4 per seat on the 996 seats

Judging from the dog's expression it was in recent use, too.

I've had 996 sport seats in my 993 for a year now. Like them enough but with two gripes. They are very narrow at the shoulders (and I'm 5'9" and 150 lbs so I have no clear understanding how anyone larger could fit into them) and... the driver's side seat absolutely needs a lumbar support. Most german seats I've had (dozens OEM and aftermarket ones, literally) do not provide me enough lower back support for drives longer than 2 hours.

I have an adjustable lumbar from BMW E38 that I'm planning to install. Well, the only issue for me is mounting the round switch to the 996 seat, the rest of it is all figured out already. I think I'll be a happier man once the lumbar is in, at least on longer drives.

Does anyone know what the exact differences are between the 993 sport hardback seats and the 996 sport seats?

Thanks,
Dave

you can do a search...but basically, there is about a $3 to 4K difference in price dependent on condition, etc....I've had both and think the 996 version gives more lumbar support...also driver seating position is slightly higher on the 996...aesthetically, the 993 painted or stock hardbacks are hands down gorgeous...JMHO

Nice! I'm also using the same thread to install a set of full power, supple black leather 996 seats in my 928S4. Using a few other links, I was able to wire-up the driver's seat to fully work. I originally purchased the seats a few years ago for my '96 993 but have since found a set of full power, cream leather 997 seats, closer matching the cashmere interior. Once I have the 996 seats fully installed in the 928, I'll start fiddling with the 997s for the 993.

Yes, the run about 3/4 of an inch taller. I am 6'0" and running 996 hardback GT3 seats. They sit a little taller, so at 6'2", you're gettin' up there.

ok. So your head is close to headliner -> I’ll check my friend’s and try his seats before moving on

Question for the jackpot:

as said above I’m debating wether purchasing a set of 996 sports seat.
Besides the way they sit they’re not original and the switches are not the classic 4 way round ones that characterize the 993 ones.

I never remove and or analyzed properly tese seats BUT according to you is it possible to retrofit the 996 hardback seats with traditional round 993 switches?

I may remove them from my current normal 993 seats and stick those to the 996 seats.
pretty sure is not 100% straightforward but technically is it doable?

My head is not close to the headliner and I've got safe distance, but It's 3/4" higher than my stock 993 seats and you're 2" taller than me. Everybody adjusts the seat back angle which affects the distance of head to roof. I'd put your 993 seat at its lowest setting and put a piece of 1" foam on your head...adjust to your normal driving position....you'll know immediately if you have an inch to spare

Do a search for 996 seats in a 993. You'll find the instructions for the wiring from LeylandPete. Worked perfectly for me.
