Can you feel a 5hp difference?

Question: I did the airbox mod (drilled holes in airbox cover) and reportedly it gives you an extra 5 hp and it does sound great. It feels quicker to me, and I don't know if that's all in my head or not because of the sound, etc. My question is can an inexperienced butt like mine (had first p-car x 1 year, tracked once) notice a 5hp difference in street driving only? I've also read that the running the AC subtracts 5-15hp, but I really don't necessarily notice that drastic of a change. Thanks!

its not the actual hp increase that matters most but any increase in responsiveness and torque, and where in the powerband that increase is.

honestly jimbone, I don't believe we can feel a 5HP difference, if ever those holes give such an increase. But the sound during acceleration is great!

I have the "sound package" on my 993, which is basically the same thing as drilling holes in the airbox - as far as I was aware there is no increase in HP - it was all about sound - that's why it was called the "sound package"?

I think the a/c sucks around 7hp, I heard that and don't know it to be a fact.

No. Not on your car.

However, if you were to add 5 HP to your push mower you would notice the difference!

I'll second Marv. When I turn the A/C on in my Golf TDI (around 90 horses) I can feel every hair of those five to ten horses slipping away from me. On the 993, the difference is much less noticable.

I really dont feel a great differnece with AC on/off in my 993....maybe just a very slight sluggishness....on my 951 a different story.....it was OK when turbo spooled up but until then it was a dog with the AC on

Whoever told you that drilling holes in your airbox gives you a 5hp increase doesn't know what the heck they're talking about. It's worth about 0.01 hp. But you wouldn't likely notice 5hp increase anyway.

15hp? Yes, you'd probably feel it. Sometimes I forget to turn my A/C off at the track, but I figure it out in about 3-4 turns. That's probably about 10-15hp I guess.

You cannot feel a 5 HP difference on a 270+hp car.
As Eric said, the drilled airbox will not make any difference in performance, the sound will make you feel like it does, it is normal. :)
On 993TTs (particularily modded) the drilled airbox makes a substantial difference.

When you floor the accelerator in the 993 with the a/c on, it temporarily turns off the a/c compressor until you release the gas pedal, AFAIK...
