The other day my 2.5 yr old son was playing with his 911 carrera matchbox car I gave him... My wife apprached him and he said " daddy's car", my wife said "Thats right, just like daddy's car". The 2.5 year old then takes the corner of his shirt and rubs the car and says "wash daddy's car" .. My wife says "thats right, wash daddy's car".. Then he says " no touch daddies car" and my wife just has to laugh...

That commercial was me, metaphorically of course, and I have it downloaded on my computer. I'm now 28, 1 year out from buying my dream, a 993 C4. I could do it now, but like that kid in the commercial, it's all about respect. It will be there when I'm ready.

I just learned from a friend that the same kid who talked Porsche's with me over a year ago is now fighting for his life (leukemia) in SLC.
Jesus this breaks my heart. Sometimes life isn't fair. 9 years old.

I wonder if there isn't something his "Porsche Buddies" can do to cheer him up? See if he has an email address that his parents would let us use to send him our wishes and some pictures. This is too sad.

I have no idea guys. I don't even know his last name. His family lived somewhere near me (in the neighborhood) back in Montana. I was talking briefly with the guy who bought the house from me and he mentioned it. That's all I know. It put me in a bad mood though.

I was on my knees doing some cleaning of the lug nut recesses when I hear a near simultaneous "WHOA!" and the distinct sound of a bicycle tire sliding on the sidewalk. As I look up, there is a boy, about 9 or 10, straddling his BMX at the end of my driveway. he called me "mister." I am only 26 and this was Definitely the first time I've been called "Mister." "Mister, would you mind I look at you car?" I told him he could if he allowed me to look at his very tricked out BMX. His name was Jackson, and he assured me he knew plenty about Porsches from his Need for Speed games. I was surprised, of course, that he did know the car was a 993 and that is "went 180 mph" on his game. He walked around it, being careful not to touch, a car he though must be worth at least $100,000. when I told him it was worth about $30,000, he informed me that I had gotten a "very good deal."
I showed him the engine, the hollow spoke wheels, the brakes, and let him sit in the drivers seat. He showed me his BMX bicycle, of which he was obviously proud. And informed me of his record breaking status with the annual PTA fund raising bicycle ride.

Guys, this was the first time I've ever seen the eyes of a kid, griping the steering wheel of a dream car. They were beaming. I told him if he'd like a ride, he could bring his mom or dad over and if it were ok with them, we'd go for a spin. Ah, dammit, I feel like a guest on Oprah or something. I dounno, Jackson made my day for stopping by and talking cars for a bit.
He learned a bit about Porsches, including the origins of the hood crest and the correct pronunciation of the marque. And, I learned a few good tips on ramming police cars on Need For Speed.

It was a fair trade.
Edit: Just saw the update, that's quite sad. Good kid, gets a raw deal.
