Debugging new baby...help please...
Got my car last week but had to travel right after that...back home I'm beggining to understand the car's bahavior...
The right side of the car, especially the rear quarter panel is extremely hot after driving...even the seat belt feels hot...is this due to the oil radiator position?
Weird noise in the instruments panel when the car is not running...even with the key removed...only way to kill the "cricket" is disconnecting the battery... my wiring harness is almost dead and I'm replacing it (Porsche Recall) next Monday...I'm guessing this is related to the wiring harness or maybe just some short...
I'd appreciate any inputs regarding these matters...
Thanks in advance...

The oil tank is in the pass side fender but shouldn't be that extreme with heat. The noise in the dash may be the CCU's internal fan running after shutdown, its the little grilled area just right of the fan speed ****. Make sure your engine under tray finds its way off the car if it is still there, it cuts way down on the heat; especially being in FLA.

Thanks Chris...the front right fender gets hot as well (not as much as the rear)...I know a few things about the Porsche 356 but I'm still crawling as far as the 993s...
I'll get it checked while replacing the wiring harness next Monday...

Thanks for the feedback...anyway, the oil temperature is very good...between 8 and 9 o'clock in traffic and drops a little on open roads...my only concern was related to the temperature found on the right side of the body...
As far as the noise behind the instruments...my guess is the wiring harness and its gremlins...according to the mechanic who did my PPI...my wires are "crispy" french fries style...unbelievable how they are still alive and working...fortunately I'll get it replaced on Monday...
Does the clock make some noise on operation?

Only worry when your right front fender doesnt get warm. It being warn tells you the thermostat is opening
Rear right quarter will get warm to the touch as well. No worries.
Inquire to the dealer about the dash crickets when 'in' for the engine loom replacement. Most of all, enjoy it.

Thanks Chris...I did disconnect the battery for the night, next morning everything was normal at the dash...no more noise...it was probably the fan working afterhours...anyway I'll check with the dealer by the time I get the wiring harness replaced...by the way...the wires are kind of scary looking right now...they are being brave in keeping the electrical system alive...
Talking about enjoy...the way this car corners is unbelievable...feels like a slot car...
Thanks guys...being a beginner with no help from this list would be a pain...

the 'cricket' fan will run about 20 minutes after shutdown. Its an easy clean and lube and then you wont hear it anymore. Its the CCU fan

I also noticed the right rear seat belt and surrounding trim panel getting quite warm when I first got my 95 C2. I too was a little concerned at first, but turned out nothing to worry about. In Florida we get hotter than most. It's been 5 years and I haven't incinerated myself yet!

Hi Jim...thanks for the "tip" regarding the CCU fan...
Hi 901aero...thanks for your feedback as "Floridian"... The hot weather is definitely "incinerating" us lately! ;- )

Pedro,
I had a similar experience with noise in the dash and it turned out to be a clogged filter/sensor thing-a-ma-jiggy that's located to the left of the two snowflake buttons. Mine was clogged w/ dust, so if you can vacuum (be careful, though) the dust out, the noise should go away.

Three Wheelin'
Pedro--my passenger seatbelt gets warm when running the car, as the oil return lines run over the wheel and then underneath the pass door up to the oil cooler....no worries there...if Porsche is replacing the wiring harness under warranty, then it was the infamous recall that set some customers' cars on fire IIRC....show some pics man! You have been looking too long to not show pics o' the car [I know what the badge looks like in your avatar--I have one of those too ]

Hey Pedro, looks like all is OK with your car. I had the same questions when I got my 993. Gurgling at start up, CCU fan even when car was off. Its wonderful when you discover something and find out its completely normal.

Hi Cole...Norb...thanks for the inputs...it's really wonderful to learn from someone else's experiences... this list is key for 993 ownership...I'm in love with car...solid as a rock...no noises while riding...engine temperature always below 9 o'clock mark, and performance...well...you guys know better...
Wiring harness is Porsche recall # W301000...I don't know how the engine wires were holding up...they were melting...
PS. Posted some picture on another thread..."first weekend with the car..."
