Default Starting Failure

Went out to start her up and she just keeps turning over without firing and starting. Car has been running great and this is all-of-a sudden. Before i tow it to the dealer for diagnosis, is there a DIY checklist that I dont know of to trouble shoot this???

allill's suggestion is the first thing to check.

Read this: DME relay replacement @ p-car.com

1. Jiggle the relay &/or remove & reinsert it. Sometimes it's a bad contact.
2. Swap it w/a known good DME.
3. Still no start, move on to other areas.

What model year do you have? Is the starter turning but the motor is not catching? Do you own a multimeter?

Two things:
One, these guys are right...Definitely check the DME first (I have a spare if you can't wait until Monday...I'm not too far from Cos Cob). If that doesn't fix it...Then it's almost certainly the fuel pump, as I had the same symptoms a few months ago (on the *%$#$! Hutch River Parkway).

Two, (and to my horror), I noticed that my status has been relegated to the lowly "user" designation...
My two year membership has been duly renewed, as I think not being a member while using and benefitting from this forum is just not right. The goodwill and helpfulness found here is worth supporting, IMVHO.

Okay, enough of that. Back to our regular programming.

You should buy a second one as spare to let in your glove box. Or carry the procedure on how to wire the relay plugs together to allow you to go back home when this will happen in the bushes.

here is what was said in another thread:

""
Well the 911 PW is the june 2004 issue. They show a picture of the relay socket holes to be bridged with paperclip. Place the paperclip between holes 30,87, and 87b of the socket if you have flat pin relay or 86,87, and 87b if you have a round pin relay. And they stress that ignition is off before doing it! If the relay was faulty, the engine should start!""

Fiskarflugen,
Glad you got that sorted easily. Cheech at Rennwerke is a good friend of mine and kicks the dealer's *** at all levels, not least of which, is he's open for parts on a Saturday!

And Dan,
(sigh), thanks for reminding me...

Picture this, your'e in the middle of nowhere, you roll down your widow and it wont roll back up. If it starts to rain..... or you want to park securely you are out of luck if you don't have a spare switch. It's cheap insurance to pack a spare.
