couldnt agree... the only air-cooled model that i think looks better than a 993... the 964 3.6t would be my choice, but i cant afford one.... at least not one in the condition that i would want to purchase it...ray at www.rpmsportscars.com has a couple that just look beautiful....

Holy moley, that is a good looking car.
The 964T's are the last of the visceral (I WILL KILL YOU IF YOU LET ME) turbo's Porsche made.
I've only ridden in one, and it was memorable. Insurance costs kept me from hunting one down, capturing it in the wild, and caging it in my garage.
What a pair of beasts you have there, Anthony!

I struggled with the same question 7 years ago and went with the 993. Biggest flaw in my mind with the 964 Turbo (3.3 and 3.6) is the antiquated fuel injection. Also, while the 3.3 car is marginally faster, turbo lag is an issue such that in non-track day to day drive the speed difference is a toss up.
However, this is not to say a 964 turbo is not appealing. I like the 3.6 turbo a lot! Keep in mind it is still significantly more expensive than the 993 (as it was 7 years ago). In the end, if I could have bought a 3.6 turbo for a similar price as the 993, I would have gone that way. However, the extra issues of the 964 3.3 were not justifiable with the 993 as an alternative.

Drove the '91 Turbo Saturday
Thanks, everyone, for all of the advice and perspective. I, as a newbie, appreciate your input as I narrow down my search. I drove a white low mileage '91 Turbo on Saturday. The engine was amazing, and it was a beautiful car, but I decided to focus the hunt on a 993.
The 993 seems a little more refined in most areas I drove i.e. the clutch, shifter, brakes. The turbo seemed more jumpy/able to bite back, handling-wise (maybe better suited for the track than a non-turbo 993). I felt that it was a car I could hurt myself in; more demanding. The ride was much harsher also.
All in all, the 964 turbo was a great car, but I decided I want a 993. Apologies in advance if I have a bunch more questions.

The important thing is that you went and sampled what was out there--good advice/opinions on both sides of the equation. Keep us posted as to what cars you start looking at!

Please post some more pics if you can, we love them here! No Porsche is an ugly Porsche!

Arrwin - you should see it in person. The pictures do not do the Cobalt color any justice. Anthony's car is absolutely stunning. Draws a crown wherever it goes. Not to mention how nice it drives or accelerates. That is one quick car.

Since I have almost tackled my first group buy why not take the plunge and organize a drive?! The only problem is I do not really know of any good routes...

The 964 3.6 Turbo is, as these gorgeous photos attest, a drop-dead beautiful machine. Had it been in the price range of my 993 5 years ago, all would have been different. Yes, the 993NA is my dreamcar and I'm never trading her up. But the old turbo's lines are a timeless combination of "classic muscularity" ...even if that isn't a real phrase

You are correct, the 3.6 Turbo was the car in the Bad Boys movie. In fact the actual car from the movie is hear in NJ owned by a fellow lister, Badboy1.
