Holy moly, Christian! That is downright scary! Glad everything ended up ok? Like you, when driving in LA, p-car or not, I give everyone the right of way as you never know who is the whack job out there. Too much at stake to let some nut with an attitude change my life or that of my family.
Be safe, courteous, AND aware out there, all.

Concealed Carry is a little strange in Ohio. My understanding is that if you want to carry a loaded firearm in your car, you need a permit, then you must attach the firearm to your body in a fashion that it is plainly visible and identifiable as a firearm to anyone (read that as police officer) when peering into your car. When you exit the car you can conceal the firearm.

Permit aside, the thought of a loaded handgun tucked halfway down my shorts or wearing a tactical thigh holster just doesn't appeal to me. Neither does a loose loaded pistol flopping around in the cabin provide a sense of comfort.

The other legal option is to store the ammunition and the firearm in two separate compartments (i.e., trunk and cabin) so that the occupant can not get both pistol and ammunition without stopping the car and getting out.

My guess is that Ohio expects you to give the perpetrator a pencil and crossword puzzle to keep them occupied while you rummage through your trunk to lock and load.

Of course, a little music from the GLOCKenspiel is a great deterrent!
My sentiments exactly. Although my preferred tune is springfield armory.

I had somewhat a similar event as described above a couple years ago. A bunch of juvenile bangers chased me out of a regional mall. If not for some bystanders I likely would have gotten the sh** beat out of me that day or worse. The next week I was in CCW classes. Anyone even looks like they intend harm I shoot first and ask questions later. Never thought I would feel like that as I have always been a mild mannered, peace loving person, but, my family and I are more important to me than "keeping the peace".

A friend keeps encouraging me to do the same. However, I thought the rules of engagement were not that loose.

Those are some pretty scary stories from 24FPS & Slapshot. Slant911 - not sure if you meant in the car or on foot, but that doesn't sound too pleasant either.

I'm all FOR self defense. It's sad we need to carry firearms but it's a choice people are being forced into if you want to protect yourself & family. Laws preventing people from carrying loaded firearms only hurt the law abiding citizens - the criminals don't give a damn so it doesn't effect them. Personally, I'd like to see some of these maniacs rolling on the ground, screaming from a dose of mace/pepper stray to the eyes. Not the best form of protection, but I've witnessed a very mild wiff of the stuff and it's more than I care to remember.

Yes, the separate the ammo from the unit is a complete joke. I think we have that here in California. Not a chance you will be able to access it in time. This kind of BS escalates and happens in milliseconds. The time it takes to press the "end call" button on your cell phone. More likely, you will die trying to get the ammo, especially if you flash the unloaded weapon. The folks that I know who have had to draw, had to do so while the car was moving at high speed and while receiving fire "first" from behind and the side trying to get away. They also knew how to set up, aim and fire under duress via lots of training and muscle memory. Shoot to kill in the shortest amount of time possible. You can't pull to scare or ward off, you're dead doing that as everyone is on fight or flight mode. It ain't "The Shield" out on the 405 or Venice Blvd. at midnight. And agreed, with the "its not that loose" intimation. If it looks like a reasonable prudent person would have not feared for their life and safety and you fill the perp full of lead, (the guy swinging the 2X4 for example) you could end up doing quite a stretch no matter how menacing if the DA could convince a jury you did not act reasonably. At least here in Cali. Maybe some LE can weigh in?

Here in Cali, CCW just isn't an option ...sadly IMO!
Given certain "situations," I have "availed myself" of such liberties, with Walther+Hydrashok as my preferred friends, in such a situation. Like Fire or Flood inusrance, these are options you NEVER really want to use. And like Christian so accurately pointed out, one does not brandish w/o intent to use. After all, I have a family who needs me at home, not in jail. But it is precisely the point of protecting the family, (or me as their sole provider, husband, and father) that I hope to never have to use the nuclear option. ....Ugh....this thread freaks me out. Can we go back to talking cars w/o the "jacking" part. Take care all

Wow Edward, I would have never guessed. When we had the girls, I sold all my pieces, well almost all, and bought hockey equipment! Hey, I still have your hood shocks. Maybe in the next couple of weeks? I'll take it to PM. Shield is on soon too. LOL!
