Rennsport Systems web site says that "Performance enhancing software requires the use of 92 octane (pump) or better"

On a daily basis I am only able to find 91 octane. Is this really an issue?

Thanks

Cost depends on who you get it from and what year car you have. 1995 is cheapest ($500- $750) and is a direct chip change. 1996 is the most expensive as you need a new ECU from a '97 or '98 and then pay to flash it.

The Rennsport chip works fine for CA gas. You simply let Steve know what gas you will be using when you order the chip. The performance enhancement you might see is a function of the gas you are willing to use. You get a bigger benefit if you get a chip for 96+ octane gas.

I have never heard any claims that the chip flash will get rid of the CEL if you already have carbon build-up. (1995's don't suffer from this problem as the are OBD I)

Tom W. summed it up pretty well,........power gains vary with available octane and each individual engine.

I cannot speak for other chip tuners, but we do NOT do anything to disable (or interfere with in any way) any OBD-II parameters so that the car remains OBD-II compliant and will pass smog testing. One will not see any CE lights unless there was a preexisting condition to begin with.

In this respect, a properly made chip is the cheapest bang-for-the-buck that actually makes a difference in performance without triggering CE trouble codes.

Completely OT Steve (and a big hijack), but just got done reading Gold Plated Porsche. A great book with lots of great kudos to you. My favorite line is its last "every time I pull my little yellow car out of its tarpaulin tent... and go gfor a pointless drive, I'm renewed again. If there's a better reason for taking two years to sing a small fortune into a used car, I don't know it".

What kind of gains can you expect in real performance?
0-100km/h, 0-200km/h and topspeed?

I have not done a before/after on the Dyno nor clocked myself to test the speed difference. What I can only provide is the anectdotal opinion of the butt-dyno. The after the reflash, the car felt "stronger" through the rpm range - especially from 4k - 6k rpm. It also felt a bit more responsive to throttle application. I think that the reflash along with the RS motor mounts give a much more "connected" feeling to the road. Nothing like a supercharger, just a better feeling drive.

sounds like the flashing, combined with RS motor mounts and RS Clutch/LWF package could make a significant difference in the FEEL of the car on the road.... and objectively, probably add 12-15hp (?)

According to the butt-meter, just the chip (ok and maybe the ram air intake) gives a little more than that.
