Default Which tires to get (manufacture)?

I have 18” Sport Design wheels, thinking if going with 225/40 front (7.5) and 285/30 (10) rear (looking for the widest). I understand from reading the post they will fit without rubbing; however all tires are not the same (some do rub). I guess Pirelli are fine? What else??

Car is not lowered (yet). I do plan on lowering it, however by the time I get around to it I’ll probably need new tires…so for now is this the widest/best option.

I also understand (from reading the posts) 225/265 is the best option (performance standpoint), but I can’t drive it anywhere close to its max performance so I would never notice the understeer. I will notice the “look”. So what fat tires have you NB guys used…

Thanks

You can also go to a 235 front tire to help combat the understeer. That is what I'll be doing when my fronts wear out, but I'm sticking to the stock size 265 rears to help make the car more neutral.

ARGH! My car is in storage in the U.S., so I can't check this...I have the stock 17" wheels for '96 Coupe. What are the widths? What are the current "best practice" size recommendations for these wheels?

I am running 245's front, 285's rear - Goodyear F1 GS-D3 - no rubbing issues (once camber set) and car is lowered to right about RS height.

The stock is 205/50 front and 255/40 rear.

The "best practice" for your rims are

225/45 front and 255/40 rear

Sonny
A front tire wider than 225/40 is not a good idea since the maximum width for which your front 7.5" wheels are approved by the major tire makers is 225.

Good catch, Dan. Didn't register that he had 7.5" front rims.

Dave (Dudley) - we need to get together, our cars are sisters and your doing everything I want to do...thanks for the info.

Dan - Thanks (up front) I will stick with 225; the rear is the question. I'm leaning towards 285.

Danny - Thanks! You know my car, and you know I am going to do right by it, but lots to learn moving from a '75 to a '96. I did do a search, but there is a lot of information to digest. I am still trying to learn what sizes of Porsche rims there are out there, and what I can fit to the car. I'll stay with the 17" wheels, but would like to get the front wheel wells a little better filled out.

My life situation is probably about to undergo a very radical change (Part of the deal when serving in Uncle Sam's Travelling Circus - aka U.S. Army) and move in unexpected directions. I need to ride that out, but new tires are on the near horizon. I just hope I can keep somewhat with the plan that the current storage situation is short term, and keep it from turning into long-term storage!

Thanks again for the tips!

Sonny,
Sure thing. I also have a long list of what not to do and wrong turns that I have taken. Did I meet you at the Ferrari/PCA drive to CT last fall? Or are there two 993s in Sudbury?

Yeap, you got a great car bud, your rims fit those sizes that I wrote. Your rims may get squeezed a 275 rear but I would not recommend that. A 225 up front and 255 rear will do nicely with your PSS-9 and if you go with a wide tire like a Dunlop DSSR then for sure those wheel wells will be pretty full!
Being away myself I know it sucks big time not been able to enjoy your baby, but its so worth it when you finally do!
Good luck to ya!
