Porsches are very cool and fun to drive but if you want a real challenge try out a Robinson R-22. In the first few hours you will feel like a real SPAZ!!!! I landed it in my driveway yesterday. You should have seen the look disbelief on my neighbor's faces

Cool! How much do those cost? Is it legal to land them in a residential neighborhood?

I'm wondering the same thing. What are the regulations governing flight paths, times, landing zones, etc? Cool toy!

Grant, used they are 100k and up. New ones with the goodies are around 170k. Airplanes are a lot cheaper but you need a big yard to land them in. My understanding so far is that if there is room and you have permission from property owner, you can land as long as you do not violate any FARs. I dropped in on a few friends and neighbors and let my instructor take them for a quick ride. I think I started a trend as everybody who got a ride was able to fly a bit, and now they are hooked!
Happy Easter!

This is nice. If you think maintenance was expensive on a Porker, get ready for a surprize.

Some thoughts for you:

"if the Lord meant helicopters to fly, he'd given birds rotors!"

or much worse...

"Flying helicopters is like masturbation; feels good but you shouldn't brag about it."

Enjoy your chopper.

A friend of a friend is an investment banker in Johannesburg, South Africa.

He takes a chopper into work every morning. Sure beats car-jackings!

Do they offer a RS version

Closest I ever got to flying a heli is my RC heli. And even those are difficult to fly.. Cool piece of machinery, indeed!

Talking Nice ride...

Hey man, can you land that thing on top of a motor home? I'm thinking next year at the Rolex 24 you could land that damn bird on the RV and then stop in for a beer with us like you did last year. We will need to move the glowing palm tree though and do some reinforcment of the roof..... Now that would turn some heads.

He who dies with the most toys wins. You just shot out in front dude.

Cheers from the Low Country of S.C.

Default Sweet !!

Great pics and thanks for sharing. I love the R22 and R44, but I think even my wife would draw the line at rotary wing - she can't grasp how they stay in the air. Congrats and just remember to chew your gum, rub your stomach and pat your head all at the same time.

That looks like a lot of fun. I hold a private pilot for fixed wing, though helicopters are a lot of fun. I really miss flying, i need to get current.

Outstanding.

I have droven the Hughes MD500 with the El Salvadorian Air Force. Nothing like droving a rotary to get the senses to come alive.

Careful with the regs - lots of urban areas have very strict flight paths.

Helicopters and Porsche have a lot in common. They should not do what they do. Sikorsky took forever to get the first one to really fly and fly right. He only became successful after developing that rear rotor to offset the spinning of the rotary wing. Without that rear rotor the craft would naturally spin out of control without that counter force. Not a natural design for flight I don't think.
Same thing with the rear engined 911. Lousy design that those Germans persistently and eventually made work. But man, did they have to engineer that thing to death to get it what it does. Cars should naturally have the engine in front or at least mid location.
I don't think I'm to far off in my daydreaming but I am no expert. And...daydreaming it is inasmuch as I would love to fly one of those little sweeties. :0

Have fun with it and be careful.

Oh, and don't ferget yer spel cheker. I did and luuky hear, I luuks likes a reel dumy.

Hey. don't get me wrong, I did not buy one of these. I am taking lessons and you like a challenge, you should try it out. They go about 90 miles an hour on 8 gallons. The maintenance and insurance is crazy! Obtaining a commercial rating will bring insurance costs down and fractional ownership can help in a lot of ways. This may be one of those situations where renting makes a lot of sense. Of course then you see it sitting in your driveway and say to yourself=That is very cool!, maybe there is a way to swing this?. Just like the day you bring your 993 home!
