Sam seems to be have a well respected shop but really only like the 911s. Never had any first hand experience but several friends use him for trackside support.

Hmmm...well, I'm a little hesitant in our litigious society, as I don't want to be found libel. Just erring on the side of caution. I think it would be okay to say that my one experience was not positive. Simply put, they missed some really obvious items in a PPI.

Ha! I wouldn't call this off-topic, Kevin.
Top end rebuild is going great. I'm very excited about getting it back soon, maybe end of this week or early next. I'm replacing quite a bit of stuff, so it will be practically new when I get it back. They didn't find anything major other than worn valve guides and excessive carbon build-up.

I asked this question because I've heard good and bad things about this shop. I've heard there was a falling out between owners/partners due to questionable business practices. So far I haven’t heard anything really positive that would tell me to do business with them.

Nick,
You may want to consider driving out to Sealy to see Mike Callas at Rennsport. Impeccable reputation. A bunch of the Rennlist 993 guys take thier cars to him.
Also I've never had a problem with Protechnik. They are always nice when I go there to pick up a part I need. Haven't had any other experience with them tho.

Nick, another option to consider is Viking Sjovall's shop, Viking Motorsports/Dealership Alternative. It's about 400 yards, if that, from ProTechnik. Sam (Protechnik) is more focused on racing, whereas Viking does a balance of racecar prep and street car maintenance. If you want to spend six figures to go to Daytona, Sam is a great choice; for routine stuff on a street car Viking would be a good way to go.

Hey Nick,
A friend of mine is building a 914 race/frankenstein car and he talked to Sam, seemed like a fair guy for a racecar work. I personally let either Mike Callas do the work (all major stuff) or Hans at Advantage for little things, although I must admit, I drove to Sealy to install and balance new tires.
Regards
Alex
