Well, this is looking better and better...
I just spoke to Heather at Arciero Winery. April 30 is still available. I mentioned ~50 people, and she said no problem. They have 5 cars in the racing display, 4 old Indy cars, and one off-road racer. Large parking lot that can accomodate us easily. Generally, they serve a "deli platter" lunch with meats, cheeses, breads, salads, and desert. $15/person. Complimentary wine tasting. This sounds ideal. Whadda you folks say about this? Shall I book it?

Steve:
IMHO, book it. Very cool.
If the north guys want, I can do a real nice drive route to this winery that omits most of Hwy 101. Northern folks???
Off to my SM sway bar link project...

I'm in.
Jim, that sounds great although I would ask that there be less gravel on the route this time. The Superbowl run had a bit too much gravel for me as well as being killer on the suspension

Sounds great, I'll be there. Given our recent weather pattern is this a rain or shine event or will it happen only if the weather is fair? This may have implications on the reservation and possible liability for no-show costs. (Sorry to bring this up but it's good to know going in).
The winery may donate some bottles as prizes as well. Good going Steve

Believe me, I am sensitive to the gravel thing and I would bet that almost any lightly travelled road, even something as "urban" as HWY 35(Skyline) would have the issues described when we have as many cars as we did on SB Sunday. Pitted windsheilds and rock chips are not cool !!!
I could let Arnie know to have Caltrans sweep the roads we use...But, as a more serious suggestion, we need to spread out more and put better distance between us all when driving. It makes the gravel thing all but dissappear. I can attest to this as I have been rallying on back roads since being a teenager and following close is definately the culprit. It's also a generally poor idea driving-wise as well.
See you all soon.

OK... I've booked it without a deposit. Heather will need a count and 50% deposit before too long. Her banquet room (where the race cars are kept) holds a maximum of 50 people. I think we should aim for that, which will limit participation to the first 50 that want in. Other can join, but they may have to use the picnic facilities or the outdoor deck. We should plan on meeting there at 11:00, so start working that backwards to figure the meeting spots and departure times. I'm getting pretty jazzed about this. Maybe Jay Leno will join in? Shall we allow a lowly CGT to cruise up with us? Naahhhh.
<edit> this will have to be a "rain or shine" event. I may even have to put my wiper blades on!

Fabulous work Steve, count me in for 2.
Now about that banquet room...The weather should be OK for late spring so could we consider having a outdoor luncheon? And since the original flavor was BBQ, did you ask Heather whether that would be an option even of we had to bring in ourside caterers? Just my$.02...
FWIW, the old Paso Robles Inn is already booked for Sat.4/30. It's this great old place with lots of history and character. I'm now on their waiting list. I also checked the Carlton Hotel in Atascadaro-booked, and the local wineries that have B & B style rooms and they're all booked too.
Point being, make reservations now if you plan on staying in the area...

If it helps, I have stayed at the Adelaide Inn for the past several years for an annual event I do in Paso. Maybe we can get a group rate at one the places around the junction of 46 and 101, like the Adelaide.
Also, there's great restaurant in Templeton called McPhee's. It's just down the 101 from Paso and I have been there with a group as large as 35 for dinner. Might be a place for those of us staying for dinner looking for something a bit nicer than Taco Bell or Burger King. Great food and setting. Many different beers and good wines.
