Default Has anyone gotten frustrated in their search for a 993?

I swear I think I'm about ready to give up. Although I really liked my "S" car I feel more comfortable keeping my cash outlay a little lower this time around. I've been very quietly and very heavily shopping '96 and newer NB's for the last few weeks and just can't seem to find a winner. I even had a deposit on a C4 but it didn't work out.

I don't think I'm unreasonable...a 6-speed NB C2 or C4 coupe with under 40K miles for under $35K. I have found quite a few in this range but they are either too far away, black exterior color(can't stand keeping them clean), or have something about them that gives me a bad feeling. (And no...it's not that my price range is too low...I'm not finding what I like at $40K either...there's even a newly listed black C4S with under 50K miles for $39,950 on autotrader...)

I'm searching all the normal sources and even abnormal sources. I am using the very comprehensive list paradisenb provided a few months ago. Am I just too impatient or do I need to try to network to find the car of my dreams? Opinions (and leads) welcomed!

Bill - I hear ya. Been looking as well, some nice examples out there, either too much or too far.
Ray was nice enough to send me some info. Unfortunately most of the nicer cars are on the west coast.
I am under the impression that things happen for a reason, I know people that have waited a yr for the 'right' car to come around.

Don't you think there will be more cars on the market in the spring?

Why is too far away an issue? I am sure many members would be more than willing to inspect a car for you if it is too far away. Old Guy offered to help me when before I purchased my Targa 500 miles away.

I understand if you want to see the car yourself, I am the sameway. But another member could see if the car is legit.

Good luck, and I doubt if you will give up. How could you not have a 993?! Can't imagine not having one.

Default Saw One Today

I saw a '97 C2 BLK/BLK with 33,000 miles and nice options.....Not sure $40,000 will carry the day, but it was a very nice genuine Porsche...

Email if you have an interest

Too far is only an issue if the price is at my limit or a little over. Factor in $1750 via Intercity from CA to NC and other odds and ends and it adds up.

A Rennlister checked out the C4S I bought a couple of years ago and it worked out well. It was my first 993 and I think I was lucky. Now that I know more about 993's I'm more cautious!

Black cars are great looking when they're clean but I just don't have it in me to spend that much time cleaning it up

I think everyone gets frustrated when they are looking for "the" car. It takes a while but imagine if you didn't like the one you absolutely wanted? Then you would have settled and will forever think of the car 'that should have been' somewhere deep down.

Be patient. It's worth it. And the car will come around.

Local Pcar dealer rep came by my office today, my friends (owners) just purchased 2 cars (996 TT & 997S), I was talking to him about looking for 993 in an 'S' or 'TT' variant but in 'WHITE'. He mentioned so many of the resources we are using. He did say what so many others say here is that - 'when the right car pops up you will know and if it is 'the car' you will pay for it, because it is what you want. This is obviously taking into consideration finances. Distance one can over come, but $$ is another story. If $$ wasn't a problem, I'd jump on a White '97 TTS that was recently brought to my attention in Cali.
So I am considering a car at RPM, but still looking to see what else may pop up.

Bill,

Hang in there... the right car will come around and you will know it as CarmG mentioned above. As you know when i was in the market I also went through alot of looking, test driving and until my tt (btw, sight unseen) came around I kept telling myself that I will not pull the trigger. The good news is you know what your budget is and you will be ready to pull the trigger when you find your NB 993... It will happen when you are least expecting... it did for me.

Good Luck.

bill you will find the right one... have faith. it's just getting harder & harder to find truly 'sound & dry' 993's 'imho'. i remember i was so sick of hearing of cherry cars only to find an ill repaired & resprayed fender, etc.
-don't lose hope... be patient & it will come along.

btw: how 'bout drivin' across country? rather than shipping. it's nice plus, then you can post some fun pics for all of your rennlist buddies. -bol & cheers.

I paid at the bottom of your price range, though it is a 95. That wasnt a deterrent to me though. No CEL and cheaper chipping. Oh yeah, and 1K less for TPC.

Just be patient. It took me 4 PPIs and 8 months.

Oh yeah, Rovers are for sissies. FJs are for men.

Just teasing. Anyone with an appreciation for old school 4x4 AND speed is cool...

What color are you looking for, we can keep our eyes open for you. Be patient. I felt the same way you did and I live in Porsche capital of the U.S. Truspeed has a lot of 993s right now, probably most outside of your price range but here is a link to one. Good luck and hang tight. The right one will come along.

Thanks, everyone, for the positive reinforcement. Actually, I'm not opposed to a '95 as well.

I love the "S" but just can't convince myself to spend around $50K for a car going on 10 years old. I won't get into the whole collectability issue. I want a car to drive so buying a garage queen and hoping the car maintains its value isn't what I want to do.... Of course, in many people's books spending $30K for a 10 year old car is crazy too

Almost any color except black will do. I prefer lighter colors and definitely like SY, Riviera, Turquoise, etc. Condition is a bigger factor than year or even mileage (to some extent). A nice '95 with 45K miles and a full history will get my attention just as fast.
