Default Spoiler control module failure?

My rear spoiler is stuck in the up position. Thanks to the many excellent posts on this subject already, I've managed to check the microswitches and mechanisum which all seems fine. Putting a meter across the motor, it's getting < 1V.

Now, pulling the 10 pin connector apart and puting a volt meter across pins 2 and 4 (as suggested in a prior post), only gives the same < 1 volt when the manual switch is pressed up or down. The fuses are fine. I've cleaned the connector and pins, no difference.

Next step? I'm thinking about the control unit. I can hear the relays operating in the unit, plus the warning light goes out at 5mph, then comes on at 50mph (after 15 seconds, as expected. If it has failed, it's still doing something! What pins on the control unit connector should have power?

Any ideas? Anyone around the London area have a unit I can try? Is it worth putting the multimeter across the fuse terminals to check the power source?

Thanks,

Al

In checking the microswitches and mechanism, do you mean you removed the plasticpiece that covers the mechanism? I had this problem and it turned out to be the little rubber caps that comver the bolts had fallen off and jammed the gears. Took less than 2 min. and no $ to repair.

Rick,
Yes, I did remove the plastic cover and tested each microswitch for connectivity when pressed. It's not this, the main spoiler power connector isn't getting enough volts, only < 1v. I think it's either the control module or the power feed switched by the relay.

What I really need is a replacement control unit to try or failing that, to know which pins are the switched power to the spoiler assembly.

Thanks, Al.

Hope this helps...

Green Wire pin 8 goes to the "central informer" = Dash light
White/red goes to the Speedo.
Orange is switched ignition? Term 15? via fuse

Pin 6 is power (red)

grmnxtc,
Many thanks for that, perfect! I'll test pin 6 as from your description this is the power source switched by the relays. If this is giving the full 12v, I guess I'll need a new control module.

Anyone able to help with a new module? Let me know the cost etc.

Thanks in advance , Al

Anything to help a fellow Brit... Don't let my present location fool you... Still a Bedfordshire raised lad at heart.

The Porsche module # is 96461821200. Believe they are $303.22 from Pelican Parts. Probably easier from a local dealer though.

Also, as this is a 964 part, maybe there's a London based breakers yard that might have one?

Cheers,

Clive.

Do a Google search using - "spoiler control unit" -. Don't forget quotes.

How about the Rennlist sponsors? They should have multiple sources for this unit.

Thanks for the help guys. I need to get the multimeter out yet again to check the terminals, I'm not 100% convinced it's the module as yet. There's one on ebay for approx £90 shipped, also mailed a few breakers to see.

Cheers for the offer George. I'll pm soon as I know.

Just an update on this if anyone else is having the same problem. It was the spoiler control module. I got that module from a german ebayer, now working fine.
