Default 1997 C2S price help please

Just looked at a '97 C2S, black on black. 28,000 miles.
Looks in excellent condition cosmetically. Haven't driven it.
Excellence magazine prices it at $42,000 in excellent condition.
Is this about right? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Neil

That sounds like it would be an excellent price for an excellent example. Are you about to buy one? Please post pics of it in your driveway (the prize of the hunt - primal man and all) if you do!

I agree... if it passes PPI and is all it says it is, that's a great price for that year, model, mileage.

Good Luck!!

thats a great price.... maybe, a little too great (?)

for that year and mileage, priced about $10k less than what you typically see them for in advertisements...

Either prices are beginning to weaken a bit, something funky is going on with the car, or its just a really great deal.

Assuming its the color/options you want, and if the PPI comes through solid, and the car has all paperwork/records, clean carfax, I would jump on it... heck, listed at $42k, maybe they would take $40k for it...

I think I've caused some confusion. The $42,000 price referenced above is
not the selling price. It is the price in the Feb.05 Excellence Magazine market update for a '97 C2S in excellent condition.

The seller is asking low fifties. I thought this was high and am trying to establish the correct range.

Based on your responses it seems $42,000 is low. Is mid to upper 40s correct?
Thanks again for feedback.

Of course varies depending on condition of car, color combo, records, mileage, etc. What I can tell you is this -- I spent almost every waking moment earlier this year, comparing prices, searching, shopping, etc. I wanted a mint condition 98 C2S silver w/black interior with low mileage and original owner...with those parameters, I couldnt find anything priced under $55k. I think you will be stretched to find something similar in the $40s, but maybe I could be wrong...maybe prices are coming down...

I think low to mid 50s would be the floor for a clean C2S with low miles and full records. There are plenty of people out there who would buy this car at low 50s.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies.

Bootman: According to the Feb. 05 Excellence the price range for a 97 c2 is:
poor $26,452 excellent $40,263

The range for a 97 c2S is: poor $27,602 excellent $42,013

According to some of the above feedback, the price for an excellent c2S could be (considerably) more than the $42,013 listed in the magazine.
Good luck in your search.

Happy holidays to all!

I sold my '98 933C2 S for $56,000 ( I Think) with 28,000 miles in October 2003 to a gentleman on Rennlist.....maybe a bit under market, but the last few dollars is not everything when finding a genuine Porsche a good home.....It is now concours and shown......proud to have owned it, but I have liked all 15 Porsches I've owned in 30 years of Porsche addiction

Options included a $4300 special order paint, Digital HiFi Sound, CD, Motorsound, Sport Seats with Crest, 18" Tech. Wheels.....some other stuff and the car was Forest Green over Cashmire.......MSRP was around $75,0000 and the Porsche was MINT/ORIGINAL

The prices quoted in Excellence are way off base IMO. High 40's to Low 50's would be great to appropriate pricing for a quality C2s with that mileage. Good luck with your search.

i just picked up the Feb Excellence, and i saw the pricing in there that this post refers to.... gee, unless something has REALLY changed in pricing lately, i would say the Excellence prices are not consistent with what is occuring in the market for these cars.... not just the 97 C2S example, but all the cars listed in there looked to be less than what really is happening on the street...

Board consensus tends to be that Excellence's prices are low. Could be we are exceptionally picky and only buying/selling the top examples. I see 993's going for under 30K on eBay, but they aren't like mine.

I think Excellence has been really low for 993's for a while especially S's but I figure it may be a bit due to my looking mostly in SF Bay Area, who knows but most think EXC. is low IMHO. My guess your '97 C2S 28K is worth about 50K give or take. Hopefully you will be taking.

I paid $46,900 for my '97 Guards red C2S, 29,000 miles, totally stock in near perfect condition. I bought it from an independant dealer and I don't think he Knew what an S was.
