it was not the slave
You may remember that I thought that my slave had gone out and I was going to do a diy and replace it. It turns out that the clutch was gone and in pulling off the valve cover we found that the valve guides were gone. After taking the heads off we found carbon had cloged every opening possible. Every thing is now cleaned up new exhaust valves and rockers are going in along with a new clutch. Just for good measure I decided to put on some PSS9's to give it a better ride. Merry Christmas to me HaHaHa.

Gary...I too have a 95, what kind of symptoms did you experience to make you look at the valve guides and then into the carbon issue. How many miles were on your car? Did it actually run poorly? You have me thinking now....

I have 120,000 miles on the car with no problems, the car was running strong. What happened is when the car was pulled in to inspect the clutch the check engin light came on. The guy working on the car had a good idea what it was and pulled the cover to take a look. I had no reason to believe any problems existed at the time.

I do not know when the clutch was replaced, I did not get a lot of papers on it when I purchased it. I have put 30K on it over the last two years.

Randy - do you use any additives to the gasoline to help our cars from having the carbon build up. Because our cars are prone to carbon build up, is one brand of gas preferred over another. ie Chevron vs Shell or Safeway gas. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks

The clutch and top end rebuild is 6K, the PSS9.s installed is 2.5K for a grand total of 8.5K. Aftter owning the car for about a year and reading these forums I had a good idea that this work would be needed so it was not a surprise when it happened. I do not plan on selling the car, as a matter of fact my kids are fighting over who will get the car from my will.
