Question on permanent Air Bag defeat for 993

I am currently turning my best freinds us spec non sunroof 1995 993 to a RS type clone. One of the things that is highest on our list is defeating the air bag system. I already have the 993 RS type wheel mostly installed and the passenger bag removed. ( 7 year old son and short wife don't need airbags going off in their face) I don't care to here any discussion about decision to disconnect passenger side air bag I just want to know if it is possible to delete both airbags and trick the system to keep the airbag light from coming on every time the car is started. I have found that it is not hear as simple as on a 964 where you jumper the plug going into the air bag brain. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Cory Jump

If there is anyone out there that has done this rescently and wouldn't mind getting a phone call on a Sunday please include it as I would like to talk to you.

I dont think its as simple as a jumper wire, but IIRC, the system needs to see a certain resistance to avoid the airbag light. At first, one would think just measure the rsistance of the airbag itself, but second thought, the current that a volt meter puts out to measure resistance might be enough to set off the airbag :crying:

On a side note, love to see progress pics of this conversion:)

www.airbagonoff.com. Lots of threads on this, including me on my car. Best option IMO as if you want the airbag on later, you can do without too much trouble.

Thanks for the link. Do you have your airbags disconnected and removed or just switched off. I have done numerous defeats on 964 chassis cars but this is so much easier. I have the airbags disconnected and removed as well as the light bulb removed but you have the inconvenience of the exclamation light coming on every time you start the vehicle until you press it. I would like to trick the system into not seeing the airbag control module.

Thanks

need wiring diagram for air bag controle module

I have determined the information that I really need is the color code of the two wires going into the air bag control module that run the fuel pump. By unplugging the control module and routing the fuel pump wiring around that plug ( connecting the two wires) I will have eliminated the air bag control moduel from the system. If anyone knows of 993 airbag module wiring schematic online it would be greatly appreciated. I have the manual at home in my shop but do not have access to it. I am 300 miles from home trying to finish this item on my friends car.

Thanks

If I am reading this diagram correctly the colors should be GN/RE and BK/YE. If you have wires of that color in the vicinity you should be OK, But as you know the color in the diagram is not always correct.

This switch permits you to turn the airbag on or off with a turn of a key. It was important to me to have the option as in the event my Wife or another adult wants to ride shotgun, I can turn on the airbag without taking out a screwdriver. If you don't think you'll need the airbag at all, then if you can figure out how to fool the system, more power to you.

i got a switch from the airbagonoff people a couple years ago. it is a 2 pole switch (for dual stage airbags). since the 993 has 2 single stage airbags, you can use 1 switch for both airbags. i turn mine off for the track or kids riding with me.

So does anyone have a solution other than the switch to bypass the airbag system? I would like to turn off my light since I have removed both airbags from the car.

Thanks!

On the 964 there is a jumper that gets inserted that turns off both airbags and has no issues with the light. Is this not an option for a 993? I used it on the Turtle when I switched to a non-airbag wheel and wanted to disable the passenger bag and get rid of the annoying light.

Have you thought about removing the light?

That does not take care of the acktun (sp) light.

On my 98 C2S, I was told by reputable source that PST2 would allow disabling both driver and passenger side airbags. I need to follow up on this after the holidays. Anyone else heard of this solution and actualy done it?

Happy Holidays to All!
