How to Ship a DAS?
Hey guys,
It looks like I'm getting a good deal on a used DAS from NoCal. Problem is that I'm in SoCal. What's the best way to have this thing shipped? Is it too big & bulky to ship UPS ground? Or, can it go on a Greyhound bus? Does it have to be boxed up, or can it be transported as is?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Rich

Rich, Mine was delivered as is with a shipping invoice attached and UPS tracking tags. No special prep needed as far as I know. The bar was unpainted and raw so if it has been painted it would likely get scratched up.
BTW, I will be selling my DAS bar soon if anyone is interested.

Chuck will save you a bunch. To go by UPS it must be in a closed container and, because of the size, will be billed as if it weighs 100 lb. That means it costs about $100 to ship. I tried to find a better cheaper option when I shipped mine to VA, but that was about it. Later Bob (viperbob) posted a different option that was a bit cheaper, but not as simple as UPS.

Rich,
FYI, FedEx Ground is the way to go. No shipping container needed. It only cost $34 to ship from Colorado to Maryland, an amazing price for a bulky, 65 lb item. IIRC, the shipper has to drop the bar off at a FedEx hub or store. No pick ups.
Using UPS Ground to ship the DAS bar is too expensive. Besides, from what I was told, UPS said that the maximum size exceeded 130 total inches and would have to be shipped by UPS Logistics for $159. That was two years ago so maybe things have changed.
Anyway, it sounds like Chuck is doing you a solid.

With what I have gleaned from all of you on this board I could do a hundred favors and still be in debt. I have PMed many of you with questions and have always been given the information I was looking for. I too love this board. I may not post as much as some of you, but I read the postings several times a day. I know more about my 993 than I could have ever hoped to because of this place. Oh heck, I am getting all tearing eyed ..

I'll second the Fed-X ground. Mine shipped from Seattle to Rochester NY. Was about 50 bucks.

Very nice Chuck....
Rich - Another alternative for future shipping in California is California Overnight. We ship GT3 seats all the time to Socal for about $45 each, and it is next day service. UPS was close to $100 for ground transport. But it sounds like you are taken care of in this situation...

Clearly Rennlist Express is the way to go - what a great place.
Barring that, I have found Greyhound is a good cheap way to move bulky stuff if you and the shipper live near a depot - my Redline 944 bar came that way. But for just plain heavy I use Fedex Ground. Cheap and they don't do nearly as much damage as UPS.
