One man's tragedy..

Well, the suffering economy has claimed another victim. After a brief stint at a small consulting company here on the west coast, the well ran dry and I'm out of a job. Two questions for Rennlisters (one p related, one not)
1) I will be renting a trailer and taking my 993 back to Chicago. Any tips on what to do/what not to do when securing the car to a rented trailer? I rented a Uhaul trailer a long time ago to tow an old race car of mine, wasn't too thrilled about the safety of the trailer.
2) I have a shameless plea for work. Ex Big-5 consulting partner, now looking for next opportunity! Will work for high octane gas!
Depending on the dry spell, I may have a few toys for sale (listed on signature line). Hopefully not, but if anyone is interested, email me at rlg_840@yahoo.com

Ric:

Good luck to you in your job search. I lost my job (along with 300 other coworkers) on Aug 6th to a weakening economy. The manufacturing sector is sure taking a beating right now.

Hopefully you will find employment soon and won't have to liquidate anything!

Good Luck

Ric,

Sorry about your job, alot of that going around.

A Uhaul trailer won't work safely for a 993. Pay the big bucks and have Intercity or one of the other pros do it and your car will be worth a lot more by the time you get to Chicagoland. Good luck on both counts.

I agree, a do it yourself tow with a U-Haul could be scary. Looking at my latest issue of Sports Car Market, I see the following transport companies listed:

Passport Transport 800-325-4267 www.passporttransport.com

Intercity Lines 800-221-3936 www.intercitylines.com

I'll probably be using one of these companies to ship my 993 from Chicago to SoCal in October.

Ric, I wish you the best in your new job search. These things usually work out for the best, and hopefully, you'll find an even better job than the previous one!

During my impoverished med school days, I once moved my car on a U-haul trailer. At about 2 am, I noticed enough sparks coming off the right rear aspect of the trailer to mimic 4th of July fireworks. As it turns out, once of the tires had blown, and I was cruising down the freeway on a metal rim.

The rim was ground down to a "nubbin" measuring maybe 6 inches in diameter, but the other 3 wheels/tires had kept the rig relatively stable. Needless to say, it's the last time I've ever moved a car with a U-haul trailer in tow!

If there is a positive side to the story, the U-haul assistance man arrived within 30 minutes of my call (and I was in the middle of BFE, Mississippi), and never questioned how I had done that much damage to a wheel! :)

Hey Ric...

Sorry to hear about your job.. I was laid off from an internet startup in January also. But the funny thing was that they hired me back as a consultant ( at 2X the money ) and I just started working for them again as a full time employee again last week.

Pretty ironic, but I feel that I am lucky that things worked out this way and I have a job and a paycheck. I'm sure that things will work out for you also.

We are looking for a Business Development person, or a Senior DBA/Java person, if you are interested.. Email me and let me know.

Good luck out there..

Jeff

Intercity shipped my car from Ca to Chicago back in Feb. a real first class operation. Check the archives, I am not alone with my satisfaction. word to the wise, you get what you pay for.
