Newbie 993 Purchase advice...
Hi all. Came across this at my local dealer. Just wanted to see what sage advice you have on this car. Always wanted a 911 and this one is just so nice looking. Thanks.

I like how the ad shows so many "options", like: clock, gauge cluster, tachometer! It also shows tilt steering wheel, I didn't know you could get tilt in the 993?
How much are they asking for this car?

Look for signs of repaint (or ask), easiest way is variation in orange peel across side of car. Check options, on sticker under front hood or can get using vin#, then use option decoder (p-car.com), so you know what car has. Check tire wear as tires cost a lot on this car. Check service history, what records come with car. Make sure service, oil change intervals are on the mark. Check out interior, lots of cars have bolster wear, what can you live with? Drive car. If you really like the car, get a PPI done (read lots and lots of threads about this). Be aware that brakes, clutch, shocks may need to be changed out, or may have been changed out already. These can be expensive or an opportunity to upgrade depending on how "Rennlist" you are.
Read "survivalist guide to rennlist" thread at the top of this page.
Good luck.
To all the veterans: I figured it was time I started giving back.
BTW, who is it that always says "do a search lazybones"?

Well I did check out the FAQ, but most of the links in it are broken. I was just looking for some insight into this car or maybe someone who used to own this particular car. I did a car fax on it and it was bought in Florida in 96 and came to Houston in 98. Carfax is pretty clean. As much as its worth. Thanks.

Looks pretty nice, it's almost the twin of my car ;-)
One thing to watch out for is that it's pretty easy to wash titles in Florida (discovered this when shopping for a used lexus in Jan) Take the car to Mike Callas in Sealy and have him do a thorough PPI. I'd also be happy to meet up and help you check out the car/compare it to my current one.
cheers,
sean

A couple things -
There is wear on the driver's seat. Get a quote on the repair for that and negotiate with seller.
They show a pic of the tread on the front tire, but not the back, which wears more quickly. Check that out instead.
Do a PPI.
Do a search on Rennlist for price range considering condition.
Good luck! Lots of 993s in Houston, that's where I got mine. Shop until you find the right one.

Thanks everyone. Its at Momentum Porsche on 59. They are quoting me $35K. I'm going to check it out this afternoon and post back a report. I'm sure there is bargaining room. Thanks.
