Great story Fred. Reminds me of when my uncle took me for a ride in his new 1961 XKE. I thought it was a rocket. Totally turned me on to fast sports cars.
But what really turned me on to Porsche was when the dad of a friend of mine bought a new Speedster, in 1955. I was just about a first grader at the time, but I thought that was about the coolest car in the world. At that time seeing a Porsche was about as common as seeing an elephant in West LA. Certainly different than the 1955 Cadillac tank that my dad drove.

Good Job Fred.....Below is my reply to a post called "the Passion of the Porsche" back in March '04
I can relate to the good deed you did for the lad....
I was "hooked" forever when I rode in a new 912 with my boss driving... He was a German Gentleman and knew how to make the car "sing".. The first turn did it for me..... The year was 1966.. I think... I was 21 then... Geez, those were the days
