Were your previous 914's reliable cars? I will be in the market for a second car soon, it will need to be cheap, reliable, and fun. Porsche is a plus, but the last thing i need is another 944. I love the thing, but i need something that will work, a lot.

Eyal,
My 914's were rock solid and never had a problem with either one. A solid vw engine. The first was a 1.7 liter and the last was a 2.0 liter. The 76 2.0 was suprisingly peppy. I don't think I ever used the brakes on either one. Faster cars? Sure but none more fun in the twists. Once you get the momentum, you can just keep it up all day. Now, remember I bought these cars brand new and only put about 40k on each. Finding a good one today, don't know. You are a mechanic so you can work on it yourself and save big. VW engine can't be too expensive for parts.
I love the cars and they are really fun to drive. Good track car too.
