key woes
I bought a very nice 96 C4S, but unfortunately I got only 1 switchblade key and no keycode.
I'd like to recover the keycode, get a spare key, and convert both keys to the older non-switchblade style. (I've seen the very helpful DIY on p-car.com, and it seems like something even I could handle.)
I ordered the parts from the local dealer (Negherbon in Oakland).
First off, they told me that I can't get the keycode that Porsche wouldn't give it to them even. Is this true?
I got my spare key and other parts today. The spare key is visibly different than my other, working key. I haven't tried it in the car yet, but I can't see any way it'll work. The dealer claims that my car must have been rekey'd, but I doubt that.
If I just buy a key blank from Pelican Parts, can a regular locksmith copy my good key?
Also, how do I program my new remote w/o the keycode? From other posts, it sounds like this requires a dealer visit?
Thanks.

I gave them a copy of my driver's license and the vehicle registration in my name. (That's what they asked me for to make the key.)
However, they still told me no way regardless of what they brought them could I get the keycode.
I think I'll call some other dealers tomorrow. It doesn't sounds right to me.

Yes, take your business elsewhere...Most dealer would not only get the keycode for you they would also program into your new remote(s) for you free of charge AND while you wait...

The Porsche dealer cut key IS VERY visibally different from your existing key. Don't ask me why it looks like an alligator's jaw, but it does, and it does work! My dealer is 2500 miles away and was able to get me a sheet from Porsche with both my key code and my radio code. Sure seems like some of these dealers know less than us sometimes!

As others have said, you need to find a dealer that understands the customer service responsibilities of its franchise. Call PCNA's Porsche Customer Commitment Group at 1-800-Porsche (767-7243) Option 3. I'm sure they can provide better assistance than your dealer.
