What's this box?

In earlier posts I've been trying to sort out my Porsche UK fitted alarm system. Having spoken to the company that made the system for Porsche UK, I need to access the alarm system which is located under the driver's seat (UK = RHD) to check a few things. I've had a look under the seat and concluded I'll need to remove it to gain access to the alarm boxes.

Under the seat are 3 boxes, two of which I am led to believe will be for the alarm (one for the system board and one for the ultrasonic sensors), but there is a third which is "floating" - it has lugs for bolting it to something, but it is just sitting on top of one of the alarm boxes (which are bolted to the floor). I am wondering whether it was unbolted by Porsche UK when they fitted their alarm system in order to accomodate the alarm boxes.

The box is diecast aluminium about 3 x 2 x 1 inches and has 3 sockets into which are plugged one yellow plug and one black plug, the smallest socket is unused. It has German writing printed on the label and has a Porsche part numer beginning 924.xxx.xxx.xx (don't remember the other digits).

Does anyone know what this box does?

I also found a round DIN 7/8 pin connector that is not connected to anything. Does anyone know what this is/was for (maybe it was for the now redundant factory ftted alarm)?

TIA,

Steve.

Steve,

Does you car have the hi-fi option? If so, it could be the amp for the hi-fi speakers.

Thanks Ken.

Checking the details in the service book, and with reference to the options decoder at p-car.com, I have Option 490 which is shown as "Sound Sytem" - there is another shown at P-car, namely Option 686 "Digital Sound Package" which I don't have.

The radio itself must have been replaced fairly recently (I got the car in March) as it is a current model Alpine unit.

Maybe the floating DIN plug is for use with Option 686?

Perhaps I should note down the entire part number and ask my local Porsche dealer to identify it from their parts catalogue.

Thanks again,

S.

Hi Steve

I have a DSP sound pack, The floating DIN Plug that you talk about is used for the DSP sound pack( on mine its pluged into the Nokia Amp which is part of the DSP Package.

Thanks Carlos - at least that's one question answered, I just need to find out what the alumium box is now.

Hi Al Baby, Thanks to you also. Are you joing us at the E/// re-union on the 25th? I'll have to call round to your place when you're at home one day and I've got mine with me (most Fridays) so we can compare Targas!

Carlos, all wires/connections for the CD changer go directly to the head unit.

under the right seat ,at least on N. American cars; there should be the cruise control unit, Nokia amp for the stereo, and the central alarm/unlock control box (which has a 928 xxx xxx .... part number IIRC)

Hi Steve,

No problem, my targa get quite lonely these days not that many Targas around in the UK.
I will certainly try to get to the E/// re-union.
