Question Disable Passenger Airbag??

On my 01 Boxster I have a baby seat installed from Porsche that has a deactivation bar installed, which disables the front airbag when the baby seat is attached. Is it possible to do this with a 95 993?

Mlk,

Yes it is possible to have the airbag deactivation bar fitted to the 993. I have taken delivery of the part and am having it fitted by the dealer next week. However, I am not sure whether this is the same part as that of the 2001 Boxster.

I don't think this will work w/ the 95 993.
Do an archive search for more details, but a lot of the airbag disable devices do not work on a 95 (only 86-98+) There are some other options discussed though.

There was a thread about this a few months ago. Do a search for "air bag deactivation"

The bottom line is that the factory deactivation kit only works on 97 and later cars. It costs about $400 plus installation and comes with the Porsche booster seat. There are aftermarket switches available. I am proabably going to have AOI install a switch for me for $375.

I am 6’4” tall and am always belted in. I have seen no evidence an airbag will do anything positive for me in an impact as I am so far from the steering wheel. My hands may be burned or I may suffer broken bones or facial injuries if my hands are in the way of the explosive air bag. Why do I have to pay hundreds of $ for this government accessory which is useless to me?

My understanding is airbags were originally designed for an unbelted 170 pound male.
Too bad smaller and lighter innocent people have been killed by airbags. The irony is our government sold us on airbags with the promise it would save children when they are deadly to children.

Why do we need permission from the government to deactivate these costly explosives which can be deadly to small people?

If you are not going to be politically correct, get a factory service manual and disconnect the life threatening explosives in your car. Just don’t tell the FEDs I recommended this!

Good luck.

George
