Default 1995 993.... what to look out for?

Hello,
as 1995 is the first year of the 993 in North America (i think), is there anything to look out for? I read sometime ago there's this issue with some kinda wiring harness/electronic component.

thx

1995 and some early model 1996 993s have a faulty wiring harness. Its a free warranty replacement at the Porsche dealer.

Wire harness is correct. I would check with some dealers if Porsche is still replacing the harness and labor for free. The time limit may have ticked away. If so, can be negotiation if you are buying the 95.

I thought the 993 was produced in 1993, not 1995

Blueman-

993 production started in 1994 for Euro models & late 1994 for the1995 US model.

With over 300 posts - is'nt it time for a Rennlist Membership?

I have a 1995, I had my wireing harness replaced a few months ago free of charge by Porsche GB. They wrote to me and informed me of the fault when I filled out one of the change of ownership cards in the service booklet. So it would seem that they are still doing this, in the UK at least.

Couple of other things to look out for, specific to 993s' 95s and above.
1. women coming up to your car and pressing
thier chest on your windows. not a major problem but you have to
clean the windows more often.
2. kids love to touch it which means you get to clean finger prints more often. alot of times the kids are with the women in point 1.
3. If you live in rural areas you have men coming up to you and telling
you (even if you have a TT) that their 98 Dodge Ram or
thier 2000 Pontiac Grand Am will kick the holy
living duck crap out of your Porch. alot of times the women in #1 with
the kids in #2 are with these guys. If you dont live in a rural area
then the men drool on your car which means you clean it some more.
get lots of microfiber towels!

specific to my 95 993...the wiring harness replacement is done at no cost but still a PITA (2-3 days). Keep an eye out for windshield rattles/squeaks and the driver door check strap. Good luck!

Windshield rattles are a no cost option.

Easily fixed with a can of silicone spray.

Enjoy.

Blueman:
My MY 95 Cab was manufactured in Jan 1994 (VIN #xxxx072) for US delivery, so you're only out a month...and perhaps #xxxx001 was produced in 1993!

Delhi,

Check for oil leaks around the cam-chain covers, check for oil leak on back of engine - furthest away from you, seal problems here can be mega-bucks to fix. Oil down the back of the engine can also be caused by over filling the oil tank - dipstick should show somewhere in the middle of the two marks. Heat shields can quickly rot out in the wrong climate, check bottom fixings of main shield and the CAT shields. Steering arm wear is shown up by the rubber insert being proud of the collar, look carefully at the tyre wear, the 993 is very sensitive to geometry.

Hope you find the right car.

PJC
