Default Looking for wheels: Found on eBay & wish list

I'm looking for a second (and perhaps third) set of wheels for my soon-to-arrive 993 (more on that when it gets here!), and I was snooping around eBay and found the following:

eBay link

They are described as hollow spoke wheels, 7.5x18 (PN 993 362 134 05) and 10x18 (PN 993 362 138 00 "B"). From what I can find, the part numbers indicate that the fronts are solid spoke wheels and the back are actually NINE by 18 Boxster wheels. What's correct?

While we're on the subject, if anyone knows of a nice set of the following wheels for sale, let me know....

Technology or Turbo-Look wheels (narrow body offsets)
Sport Classics (again, narrow body offsets)
Kinesis Supercups or K58's (8-ish and 10 by 18")
Fikse FM-10 or FM-5's (8-ish and 10 by 18")

The 10" x 18" REAR hollow spoke should have part number 993.362.140.01 instead!

Ah-Hah...Kim guessed it!

Yes, Will bought Red Bull.

Please welcome Will back to the forum. However, I will let Will "re-introduce" himself and tell the story.

I also suspect that Will is quite "slow" given his taste in 993's and likely be a great candidate for the HWFMR team!!!

Will. Given that it has been a week since the transport pick up, RB should be to you soon!!!! Enjoy.

I've thought about getting a set of wheels for my car but I haven't found any that would look really good on a guards red car.

Isn't it true that solid spoke wheels have flat backs on the spokes (like those pictured), while hollow spokes have a contoured back? I think that's the case, and I could check tonight. You can also tell by the valve stem but that pic isn't good enough.

At any rate, be CAREFUL of wheels on ebay. Many are frauds and many are cheap knock-offs.

Solid spokes have two grooves on the inside of each spoke.

No. From a prior post:

Originally posted by Dan 96C2 St.Louis
Technology (hollow) has a metal valve stem with a large visible mounting nut at its base against the wheel. Turbo Look (solid) has a rubber valve stem (which may, however, have a metal sleeve) which is recessed into the wheel so only a short length is visible.

Here's a pic of the inside of a Turbo Look wheel. Technology has a closed (hollow) spoke. If you reach inside & feel the pictured grooves, it's Turbo Look, if no grooves, it's Technology.

Hi, everyone,

Yes, Kim guessed - I've bought Jim Morton's Red Bull. It's on a truck headed this way! Jim has been great to deal with (hi, Jim!), and I'm terribly excited about his car - it's just what I'm looking for. When I get it, I'll post photos and reintroduce myself to the 993 board - I used to hang out here when I had a '97 Carrera S. I'll also need a full explanation of the HWFMR thing; I've been out of the loop!

I contacted the eBay guy, and he swears the rears are NOT Boxster 9x18's, but he would not address the part number issue. Something is fishy. Caveat emptor.

Thanks also to the PM'ers who have sent me leads on wheels.

Off to Grattan Raceway tomorrow to exercise my '87 Carrera track car for perhaps the last time before I sell it and begin to fix up Red Bull for the track. I'll check in when I get back.

Cheers,

Will

Did anyone dertermine if the ones on ebay really were true hollow spokes or not? $1650 would be a great deal, but, that was starting bid- actually, there were NO bids, but... Also, are the Conti-Sport tires that were on them any good? I just bought some 17" 993 Cup 2's & am having to have them refinished- the total cost will be $1200 by the time it's all said & done (including S&H, etc) & THEN I have to buy tires- trying to decide which ones to get- the worst part is that the Cup 2's aren't nearly as light as many people have listed- I was a little upset to find that out- unfortunately, the lighter weight, aftermarket wheels don't usually look as good on 951's IMO- too bad I don't have a 993 or 996... They look good w/almost any wheel...
