Best place to get big reds?

Price and reliability wise? Do kits come with brake lines (SS or otherwise)? Who would have Hawk pads with the kit (or allow you your choice of pads)?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Check out Crescent City Porsche in New Orleans. They advertise in Pano or Excellence all the time. Best prices I have seen. You don't need new brake lines but will need new rotors and pads. Stay with stock rotors and pick the pads that suit your driving style/needs.

I’ve been considering this and have been checking prices. Greg is correct, try Crescent City Porsche they have a web special through March for $1,995.00 Crescent City Porsche

Hey gang, their add is not clear if that is front or back, but we retail them for 1435.00 all day long. Sorry for the shamless plug on pricing.

Shameless plugs on pricing are always welcome in my book!
Is that $1,495 all four corners? Do you take AM-EX? What pads are provided and could I substitute (or pay extra for) Hawk blues?

Try www.pelicanparts.com...not sure how competitively they are price but it is worth a try.

You may want to post on the 993TT and 996TT boards - you might be able to get a set of takeoffs from someone upgrading to the Brembo F50 calipers/rotors or the new 8 piston calipers.

Greg Fishman 03-11-2003 01:16 PM

I think the Crescent City ad is for all four corners(it states "F&R"). Calipers are $279/each and rotors are $159 for fronts, not sure of the rears. With the kit they add pads and maybe something else like brake lines...

George from MD 03-11-2003 01:27 PM

Thanks guys. I e-mailed a couple of places- will let you know what I find out. Pelican lists fronts at $1,400 (lower than Imagine presuming they're speaking of the front) and rears for a whopping $3,600. I was hoping to pay about $2,500 for the complete set.

George - FYI from what I've been told the performance gains from switching to Big Reds are not very noticeable unless you are tracking the car. And even then the gain in stopping distance is not that significant, most of the gain is in greater brake fade resistance.

So unless your rotors are due for replacement or you're tracking the car, the $2500 could probably be better spent elsewhere. That said, I did the Big Red upgrade two years ago.

KC993 03-11-2003 01:45 PM

For @$1500 per imagine auto for front and rear I would take the plunge. I am pretty sure I could sell my titanium colored set for @$400 to off set a little $$$...
Now, what's the verdict on that price???

George from MD 03-11-2003 03:02 PM

What I'm hoping they'll really do is mimimize the amount of time I spend replacing rotors. We're going through at least two sets of fronts a year. Both my wife and I drive the car at track events- frequently back to back- so they never really cool down. We don't- I think- drive at tracks that are hard on rotors- Summit Point usually- other than turns 1 and 5 at SP they're not really being used too hard IMO. But they sure wear out fast. I've tried various pads but have been most happy with the Hawk blues- a little harder on wear it seems but none of the cracking I was getting with other pads.

I know I could buy a lot of $90 rotors for $2,500 but am hoping that with big reds (and the cooling ducts I plan to add) I'll spend less time replacing the rotors and have the "cachet" (if you will) of the big reds filling out the inside of the Fikse's.

All that being said I really intend to work on my braking technique this year and hopefully improve from that end too.

Still no word on pricing from anyone.... Porsche PHD if that price is for four I'll buy 'em right now...just tell me where to send the check or credit card info.
