993 WB Values are UP!!!

"I’m curious whatever happened to the muscle car market? The 993 is one of my generation’s version of the muscle car (Gen-X) - ie the teenager dream car. That may be a good reference to where the 993 market will end up - though classic 911s have a longer more established market, so maybe it’s not totally analogous.[/QUOTE]"
Muscle car prices started to increase in 2000 thru 2005. In 2005 they shot up significantly and this continued until 2008. Recession hit and prices dropped significantly. Started to creep back up until about 2015 and then started to decline slowly. 2021 prices shot up again about 20-25%.
Example: I bought a 67 Z-28 in 1999 for $27,500. Sold it in 2001 for $32,000. The owner was offered $125,000 for it in 2008. He passed away in 2017 and the car sold for $85,000. I'd pay $90-95k today.

American Muscle and Porsche are Apples and Oranges just saying…… can’t compare on future values.

i really liked how it had an old sports car feel - doors are cut low, you can practically put your arm out and touch the rear tire. the low door height really gives you the sense of being very close to the ground and a more open cockpit.
. the S54 certainly revs much freer. the S54 coupe are bringing significant money in some cases, but the roadsters are a bargain in comparison.

as you're probably aware, you're going to find that coupe prices strongly outpace roadster prices.
you'll likely find that low average mileage examples will start in the $50k range and go from there.

Buyer who craves a WB 993 and will pay what we'd consider insane prices has a picture in mind and it looks like this: <60k on odo, stock (they'd welcome MODs like PSS-10, Hardbacks, SSKs) and no accident. This mental pic is the exact same one a person sees when you google a WB Porsche 993, and that's what they want in their garage. Those are now $150-180k cars. And it doesn't have to be a rare color, but it can't be a weird one either.
So what does the $180k car has that the $150k doesn't: snazzy pics (the mandatory undercarriage, paint meter...) and drive videos from sellers who are responsive and reputable. Documented prior rebuild by reputable air-cooled shops is a big plus.
We then go downhill from here. Value-crashing factors:

We then go downhill from here. Value-crashing factors:
- Higher mileage.
- Questionable-MODs, even if they otherwise look tasteful, but constitute a deviation from the mentally googled-WB993 picture. In other words, ANYTHING that makes the car not look like a Gerber-baby version. E.g.: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...omment-6885091
- Lazy or seemingly evasive sellers who can't or won't respond to valid questions.
- Previously tracked cars. A roll-cage is the most potent destroyer of value.

I like those M coupes and love the S54. My only concern is rear subframe/body issues, which is why I sold my E46 M3.
What is the best course of action? That's what I always had trouble with. Should I reinforce before there's a problem? (But then it's modified). Or leave it and hope it doesn't fail (but then I worry about it)

Given current valuations, see below, what impact does an accident or two have on prices for a WB?
Lets say 100k miles in average condition.
For reference current nadaguides.com value for 96 C4S:

I bought my 95 NB on BAT and it was a Canadian car. 63k miles. I think the main concern is always rust and rubber seals with a "northern" car, but all the rubber was redone on the car not long before my purchase and the underbody is in excellent shape.

so I guess I should take tons of underbody shots and have a PPI done by a Porsche mechanic on the rubber, and that should bring the value on par with the US cars?
#1154
I've never heard anything about rubber deterioration on Canadian cars. In fact, I would expect that more in a warmer climate. Many Porsches in Canada are not winter driven - even when new.
Also, just as an FYI - dealing with Bring-A-Trailer has been frustrating with respect to timing and their poorly written ad which they will not allow changes to. I swear the guy who wrote mine knows nothing about cars!

If not a Carrera 993 S, what else? .... a Carrera 992 S .....
Each of the ATL area P-car dealerships have made a buy offer of my 1998 Carrera S. Any offer is understandable, however, the dollar amounts are stupid.
Ordered new back in the day our spec' was on par with the top trim 993tt, san's the 4x4, and sadly the model's core twin turbos.
Here we are 24-something-years-along experiencing a drive of the coupe as if it was Fall in October 1997. Open and close the driver's door comes with a click and the interior's robust aroma of leather. .. Priceless!
