Tractive Suspension Kit
Has anyone installed the tractive suspension on a 993 chassis? I was considering this one: https://tractivesuspension.com/produ...adjustment-27/
I got in touch with them and they referred me to their UK dealer (nine excellence). The UK dealer, however, was upfront about it and told me they have never installed it before and have no experience with it and could not answer any of the questions I had. So I have paused it for the moment.
Any feedback from members that have actually installed it? I initially thought it would be installed with the DSC controller (as seen in the 964 forum's thread). But I was told by Tractive they only use DSC now with cars that have PASM from the factory, and they use their own stand alone controller with touchscreen for non- PASM cars. They also mentioned RUF installs the controller under the seat somehow...

It's a big mod for as you stated the PASM related cars - because in a way it's an upgrade to those units with pre-existing items.
Curious what you are gravitating towards this unit when there are other options out there for performance/street suspension for the 993?

I have installed Tractive electronic coilover with DSC SA(Stand Alone) controller on 964, 993, and 996. The installation of the coilovers themselves are no different than any other coilovers. Once the coilovers are installed I run the wiring harness as per the sketch I made below.
DSC controller mounted on the left side of the vertical metal wall inside the cabin.
Feed the rear shock harness through the existing grommet hole on the left side of the metal wall into the engine compartment.
Conceal the front shock harness under the left door sill carpet, then feed the front shock harness through existing grommet holes to the front tub.
With DSC SA controller you'll need 12-volt power(10 amps) and Ground. Boom. You have electronic active suspension with 3-modes on the fly.

Thanks Tom. I am curious if you have ever used the Tractive controller as well instead of the DSC? Because it seems I don't have access to the DSC controller here in the UK

I have not. The history is Tractive offered their controller years before DSC/TPC collaborated in coilover development and distribution partnership. In this relatively small segment of the market the two brands of controllers can be viewed as competing products, but the line can easily be drawn by whether the users wants a software-tuned product with 3 presets on the fly via a button from a hidden controller, or a touchscreen-tuned product with 5 presets. My opinion is both brands of controllers are great, they both serve the user extremely well with suspension damping control reactive to G-force, they just have different approach to how the adjustments are made. It comes down to which approach the user prefers. Nine Excellence is a dealer for DSC in the UK.
This is the DSC software G-force table. User can set the percentage of damping for individual dampers to the G force, and can set Sensitivity to how quickly the dampers stiffen up to the rate-of-change in G force in 3 presets(aka 3 different modes: Comfort, Sport, Track). This is the same approach used for DSC plug & play controller for factory-equipped PASM cars from 997 Carrera S to 991 GT3 RS.
DSC software also let users set the dynamic operating range of each damper in each of the 3 presets.
This is the Tractive touchscreen. Sorry I was unable to find a larger image on the internet.

Thanks for letting me know. It appears maybe I have misunderstood what nine excellence said. My preference would definitely be for the DSC, I don't think there is any room, aesthetically, for a touch screen in the 993.

Pleasure to be of assistance. To be fair, I think NE is probably not aware of the DSC SA kit for custom applications. They are very knowledgeable and sell/support a lot of DSC plug & play controllers for PASM cars.

Tractive on 996
Hi,
infrequent reader of the forum here, figured I’d register to reply to this thread. I’ve got Tractive dampers with the Tractive controller installed on my 996.
The main control module needs to be located as close to the centre of the car as possible to get the most out of the accelerometers and g-sensors, and thereby the most accurate control of the electronic valve inside the dampers.
I’ve put the control display in it’s own housing, and it’s normally tucked away in the armrest, so not visible in the car unless I take it out to adjust the settings.
The setup works very well for my purpose which is weekend/occasional Nurburgring trips. Character of the car can be changed from the comfort of the cabin, and the systems adjusts beautifully to road conditions and driver input once you’ve set your preferences.
I did a walkthrough of the setup last week:

great review!
Why do you decided to use the Tractive controller and not the DSC sport controller?
thanks

I procured the complete set from Tractive directly, as I am based in the Netherlands, so support and warranty are a lot easier. The fact that the Tractive controller also has a display that allows for the on-the fly adjustments was a plus for me as well.

Tom, I am curious what are some good candidates for electronic coilovers for the 993?

I have Tractive on my 964 C2, I love being able to change the settings on the fly from the drivers seat. Ride is excellent, and my previous setup was not to shabby either. I had some top of the line Intrax dampers. One of the most noticeable advantages I noticed is a more stable back end, less squat under heavy power as well. And somehow I have more confidence at speeds above 240km/h, more stable.

As far as I know currently only Tractive makes electronic coilovers for 993. When the TPC/DSC and Tractive partnership begun in 2014 we evaluated the market and started with 997, 991, 987, 981. By Summer of 2015 we had 964 and 993. This year we have early 911 (G-body)!
