Body & Paint & Tub (Frame)
Deshlers Quality Collision Repair
1122 W. Taft,
Orange, CA 92865
714 998 3754
Get an appointment..have Tim Deshler do the PPI. Tim is extremely detail orientated. His frame inspection and paint work are first class.

PPI (Shops listed in alphabetical order)
Aase Brothers Motors
2017 W. Commonwealth
Fullerton, CA 92883
714 992 2283
Get an appt: Jeff Erickson or Mr. Hose Bee will do the PPI.

ANDIAL
3207 S. Shannon St.,
Santa Ana, CA 92704
714 957 3900
Get an appt: Have Kevin Kelly do the PPI. Kevin is not from der "Fatherland" as are the rest of the "wrenches" at ANDIAL..however he is the best they have.

Hergesheimer Motorsports
20622 Pascal Way, Unit C
Lake Forest, CA 92630
949 458 7223
Get an appt: Have Mark Hergesheimer do the work. Mark has lots of experience prepping race cars.

There are lots of other shops in OC...but I have first hand experience with the above. Best of luck with the PPI. And just remember, when you are looking for a primo Porsche car, you'll always find a better one "tomorrow". If you have any doubts about the car , pass on it, keep looking .

Chris,

If you don't mind the drive to Lake Forest (241 toll road is pretty quick), Mark Hergesheimer is top notch. You can find him at Hergesheimer Motorsports

Chris,

I have been following your search on the boards and was wondering which car you are ready to go to PPI on.

You have mentioned both the coupe and the targa on the boards.

Thanks,

Steve

I will second Mrtin's recommendations for Deshler's, Randall Aase Motors, and Hergesheimer's. All are great people. Certainly nothing against Andial, just I have never personally used them.

Jeff at Randall Aase did mine. Very thorough. Good luck.

I have been dealing with all 3, Randall Asae, Hergesheimer and Andial. They're all good people to deal with. I feel very comforatable leaving my car with them. I just can't afford Andial's prices though.

Just as a point of information, ANDIAL's labor rate is within $2.00 an hour of my local PEP Boys, Manny, Moe and Jack.

Bottom line, when you take a close look, the labor rate is very similar at most SoCal shops. They all have high overhead (Rent & Labor), and the mark up on parts ain't that great. And that is my $0.02 worth.

Actually, the bottom line lies in how many hours a given shop bills to do a specific job. The price per hour may be within a few dollars but the total hours charged do vary quite drastically from shop to shop.

I started taking my car to Andial last year, and was more than a bit concerned over what it was going to wind up costing me. It's probably a bit early to say with certainty, but so far their charges have been reasonable, no more than what I'm used to paying.

What I've really appreciated has been the no charge "courtesy" items. They have helped me in troubleshooting several issues (e.g., installing/running a donor CCU, investigating a high idle, resetting my airbag lights), and they haven't charged me a penny. Many shops I've had my car to in the past would charge for their time in such cases. I would say, "Pete, what do I owe you?" Pete, "Nothing, we didn't do anything."

Andial quoted me $490 for an alignment, Newport Auto: $360, Anderson Alignment (recommended by Jeff of Randall Asae, but a little too far ): $120 and Hergesheimer: $197.

Consider all the good things i heard from this board about Hergesheimer, my decision was easy.

Andial did say it would take 6 hrs to do the job though while others said couple of hours so the the labor rate may not be much different. Now can someone explain the difference in the amount of time it takes for the job.

My car is bone stock.

There is one more place i haven't tried which is very close to my house: Gameface Porche for race and street in La Habra. Anyone have any input on this place? I am still searching for a place to stick with and so far they are all good

thx

Hey Hn,

Don't blame you at all for taking your car somewhere else, considering what Andial wanted to charge you for an alignment  . If (hypothetically speaking) Andial wanted to charge me $400 for an oil change, or $1500 for a major service, I would be taking my car somewhere else for the work. That's quality I can't afford. On the work I've had done so far, they've been reasonable.

Speaking of reasonably priced shops, John's Foreign Car Service in Mission Viejo (near my house) did a wonderful job on replacing my clutch June of last year--to the tune of only $1210, parts and labor. A rare case of a great job and low price.

While I was quite happy with the work I received at John's, I'm not quite certain they are set up to perform "hard-core" mods, motorsports and such. I also don't think they have some of the more expensive tools/diagnostic equipment that Andial and others have invested in.

Finally, I recommended John's to a Boxster owning friend recently for a brake job. I had originally recommended Andial, but my friend wasn't in a position (or didn't care) to wait two weeks for an appointment. John's did a great job on his brakes, some $400 total with two new rotors.
