Technology wheels...solid or hollow...

Meanwhile back at the dealer, my mechanic commented on how nice my "hollow" Technology wheels were...I told him that I thought only the TT's came with the hollow wheels... looking from the inside of the wheel he said the hollow wheels have a series of numbers on one of the "spokes" whereas the solid wheels have an a fairly sizable depression (the casting process?)...anybody know anything about this??...he also said that this would have been a special order idem...thanks

The hollow wheels have a metal valve stem, where as the solid wheels have a rubber valve stem.

This is one way to tell...

Hollow spokes were called "Technology" and solid spokes are called "Turbolook." Aside from the valve stem, the Turbolook wheel has ribs behind each spoke. The Technology wheel is smooth.

Technology wheels were standard on the 993 Turbo only. The 993 C4S came standard with the Turbolook wheels with no other wheel options. The Technology wheels were optional on all other NA 993 cars including the C2S from '96 to '98. They were also offered as an option on some early production 996 and 986 cars in slightly different sizes.
